After lots of research I decided on a Lott with CZ action and synthetic stock. En route to the gun maker on Friday evening I stopped to look at a Dumoulin 458WM advertised in the papers. It was used past 4 years by a PH but in good nick. Bought it for about $900, with spare cartridges, cases, Barnes bullets etc worth thousands thrown in. After a decade of full-time PH work all over Southern Africa, the guy now got married and is immigrating to London in a few weeks time. Selling all his firearms.
I made use of the SAPS’s latest "safe storage" concession on the firearms act. This means I may have it with me at home and can use it once my licence arrives.
Thanx for the advice along the way.
Lochi.

Excellent rifle and cartridge combination. It doesn't get any better, really. With modern bullets and propellants, and proper handloading, the .458 WinMag is all that is necessary for anything. And a Dumoulin Mauser is hard to top. The rest is just hot rodding and extended pinky fingers. thumb Thumbs up here, not pinky.

Good going. The Lott isn't needed with todays's newer powders and bullets, your 458 WinMag will definitely do the job. Of course, just having a Lott can literally be a blast.

$900 for a Dumoulin??? We can't buy a Winchester for that in the States! Some guys have all the luck! Sould be a reliable rifle...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Sounds like you got a great deal on a great rifle. Dumoulins have a terrific reputation for build quality and reliability.

Nice going!
