I've got a 416 Mod. 70 Safari Express and the VariX-III 1.5-5 scope mounted in Leupold QD rings and two piece mounts. The rings end up on the opposite side from the bolt. With the Leupold set-up you don't have any choice, but with some of the others, you may. Even so, I would want them on the other side from the bolt and feeding/ejection. Enough going on there, and I wouldn't want to clutter that side up anymore.

guy i have the two piece bases i looked at one piece but they cover to much of the loading port and i didn,t like that, you can but the levers on either side though with the weaver style QR rings. i think i,ll go with the left side also, seems like it would be better

dickens - I changed my mind and installed the regular Leupold two piece low rings/bases on my 416. I was tempted by the Weaver style rings but they put the scope up a little to high for me. The elk hunting was off this year due to the warm (hot) weather. We hunt third season and we were in short sleeves most of the time. Good luck with your 416!
