HI,

I ordered a cz550 action today and found out that they come with a 375 or 416 bolt face. I thought they just came the same and then the gunsmith would chamber the action to what you wanted either a 375 or 416,I did not know that they came with different bolt faces. I would like to hear information from those who know about this.I got the 416 bolt face anyway .Thanks,Kev

The .416 bolt face refers to the .416 Rigby, not the .416 Remington. The Remington shares the same boltface with the .375. Now I hope I'm not coming across as patronizing because I wasn't sure from your post that you understood this, but there is quite a difference. If you want to build up a .416 Rigby, .450 Rigby, .470 Mbogo or one of the giant Wbys, this is the one you want. If you were thinking of something else perhaps you should have gone with the .375. Now if by chance you want to build up a .505 Gibbs, you should consult very carefully with a smith who has made a fair number of them. There is a body of opinion that the CZ bolt is to small for this and it would have to be replaced with a custom made .750 diameter bolt. Others disagree. Not being a smith, I have no opinion but I sure would listen to those who have done it. Otherwise, I think you are ready to build up any kind of reasonable Class III monster slayer you can dream up.

HI,

Thanks for the information ,I am learning more everyday here. I plan on making a 416 Rigby this is why I ordered the cz550 with the 416 bolt face.I bet a custom bolt face is costly, but when custom rifles are planed cost is always there. Thanks,Kev

Kev- This is confusing. If you ordered a Cz550 in .416 Rigby you got a .590 boltface. If you ordered a .375 you got a .532 boltface What exactly did you order?-Rob

If you want a 416 Rigby then it would be better to get the whole rifle instead. I paid $650 out the door for my new 416 Rigby CZ 550 Safari. It shoots like a dream out of the box and the walnut stock although does not look good to some people but it has been holding up pretty good with my rifle. You can always customize it later if desired. With just the action, it costs about the same and you cannot shoot it right away. This is just a not good option for me. Cheers! Ming

Hi Kev,
I thinks Mings advice is good to buy the complete rifle and then look at restocking if your not happy with it. The CZ550 416 Rigby is a steal at the price mentioned. You can always upgrade the recoil pad to make it shoot a little more comfortable if you feel the stock requires it.
