Speaking of fouling on big bores. I,m half way through giving the 458 Lott a good clean out ,just letting it soak ,and was thinking. Who makes good bore guides for 458 Lotts etc on CZ550s or Brno 602s? Also ,the only brushes ,jags etc that I have are the skinny little ones to suit .224" bores. Who makes a good stiff ,thick cleaning rod and brushes tec to suit?

Dewey, distributed by Pro-Cal in Geelong, would be the go. They do a 5/16" diam rod [#35CF - 36" or 44" long] for big bores.
See the Dewey web page for details. And they offer Parker-Hale style wrap jags up to .50 cal.

Parker-Hale is still good stuff, but can be very hard to get. Particularly jags for over .375 cal - think these are only available through Kynamco in the UK - look under 'Books posters and accessories'. Don't know of any Oz stockist for these.

My RSM 77 Lott fouls very badly. It shoots great though. I just use Wipeout and live with it.

I regards to bore guides, I've yet to find one for anything above 416 in. diameter.

If it shoots well, just get some Wipe-Out and it will clean up easily. No elbow grease required.

I double that. Sweets, Barnes, Butch's, Shooters Choice, etc... I've used them all and NOTHING works as well as easily as Wipe Out.

There's a chance that your perceived fowling is a result of having never gotten all of the copper out to begin with.

(Trust me, you'll be amazed at what comes out of your "clean" barrel after you use Wipe Out for the first time.)

Clean it per the Wipe Out Instructions one good time and re-assess the situation.

Big bores foul worse than any other calibers, but most seem to equate fouling with varmint and target rifles...This is so because the bigger the bore the more surface area their is to foul, plain logic...

However a big bore is not sensitive to fouling because the degree of accuracy needed in a varmint or target gun is not needed to plunk a Buffalo in his 3 ft. kill zone at 50 to 100 yards....

I don't even worry about fouling in my big bores but I do clean them once or twice a year with Wipe Out...the rest of the year I just pull one of those new rope cleaners through them....
