Saw one for sale at a gunshow last week. Was built on an enfield action with synthetic stock. It was built by a local gunsmith that has quite a good reputation in the area for rifles and the larger bores. Rifle weighs 13 lbs and has 2 mercury reducers with brake. The deal included some loaded ammo, dies and basic brass. From what I gather it was too much recoil for he fellow and he asked the gunsmith to try and sell it for him. Wants $2500, thought I would mention it if anyone was interested. I wouldn't mind shooting it but I hate too admit it's too much whump for me. Damn impressive looking cartridge.

I feel that if you start of with the 650 gr projectiles that is a good way to get used to the feel of a .585. With 650's off the shoulder it is no drama at all. Sighting in is the only issue, you really have to concentrate very hard. But for me the on target performance is worth the headaches [Big Grin] It simply is to date the most devestating round I have seen on small game [Cool] I use woodleigh 650 gr black powder projectiles with there reduced reccomended impact velocity to facilitate expansion on smaller than intended game.

Be very carefull of used 585 NYATI's. Most of the ones I've seen have serious problems with feeding and ejection not the least of which is caused by the version of the NYATI case used. Many have been built with the rigby .590 rim which was the original design and don't feed properly at all. Others suffer from Bertram Brass syndrome and won't chamber a loaded round properly, at least without having to turn all the brass off the neck to get it to chamber.
An Enfield id probably one of the best choices for such a gun, but I'd seriously want to look at the insides and shoot it before I plunked down 2.5K.-Rob

Rob,

I forget your instructions off hand for making .585's work with Bertram brass but mine feeds fantastic and ejects. You would almost think that Bertram brass was perfect [Big Grin]
