While I was in SA this October I had the opportunity to meet and visit with one of our AR members Stephen Palos. He met me at the Afton House on my lastnight. We were able to enjoy a Castle and share a few stories. It was a pleasure being able to meet another forum member who is living in Africa. Stephen is a member of the Big Bore Association of South Africa.
He was kind enough to bring a couple of the targets they use in their shoots and several of their monthly journals. I left several of the journals at the Afton House for others to enjoys and brought some back to the U.S. in hopes of getting them out to some other AR forum members. I have 4 sets of 2 journals (June and Sep 2009). I would like to send these to the first four members who express an interest. Just say you will take a set and PM me your mailing information. **1 set left**

I have a feeling this is going to be a rather expensive "Freebie"...

But, I will take a set.

You can also download at least one Journal from their site.

Go to page 10 it is a real gem, written by an author if I had to guess never hunted in Africa.

At least he did not berate Capstick, he went a little further back and disparaged Ruark, Hemingway, Roosevelt, Conners, and Americans in general.

The author was American but has passed away since writing the article.

The association does seem like a fun club, the shoots would be fun to attend.

Thunder Stick,

thanks for sharing the story of your hunt over a beer at Afton House. It was most pleasant.
We all look forward to your full report when it's ready!

Mike,

you encouraged me to go back and re-read that article. Pretty contentious I guess? Wink Still, not a bad read though...
More importantly, you encouraged me to find out a bit more about the author and I discovered the site which link I placed here below. Seems he is quite a prolific writer. I guess like all writers there are those who will agree with him and those who won't.
I'm busy chewing my way through Hemingway's "Death in the Afternoon" right now, and although I recognise the genius in it I can also recognise the "nut-case"

The BASA website has just had quite an upgrade and I will try to get a newer copy of our journal on as the sample within a couple of weeks. The one now available is Sept 07.
