I am probably going to pick up a Ruger RSM that I have been saving for; for about a year when I get home Friday. Here is the question; I can buy the RSM and take it home finally or my gun guy has a Remington 700 in .375 H&H used that came in. Both rifles are in like new condition and in .375 H&H. Now I can buy the RSM ONLY or The Remington and a 1.5-5x Leupy VXIII Ill reticle for the same price. The Remy has an muzzle brake that personly I can take or leave but it's on there. Now mind you this rifle will probably never be used for dangerous game due to living on a truck drivers wage. So the CRF vs push-feed is not really relevant. Also I have my first child coming along in three months so this is my last hurrah for a while w/ my gun budget. I will probably just use it for boar hunting and making me smile at the boom. Maybe a little whitetail hunting too . I guess what my question is is do I go for the prettier and overbuilt rifle only or do I buy the remington and the scope due to the nature of what I going to use it for and my fiscal situation(Bang for my buck). Mind you I am not overly talented shooting w/ iron sights. I can shoot about minute-of-milkjug at 100yds unless on a bench. I kind of want to do a little night time piggy hunting next year so that illuminated reticle would be nice. What would you do??????? Thanx

IMHO, the RSM is a better built rifle and I especially like the integral quarter rib. However, for what you want I think the Remmy 700 with scope is your best value. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

I know it's not a .375, but here's a good deal on a 416 Rem. Mdl. 700 that I told everyone about. Not sure if it's still available, but a simple phone call would take care of that. Why not move up to something even bigger? https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4711043/m/126108609 Tom Z NRA Life Member

IMHO a M700 doesn't come close to a RSM (I've owned both). If it were me I'd get the RSM and save up a little longer for the scope. You might get a little more instant gratification with the M700/scope combo, but in the long run I think the RSM is the better pick.

Chop the brake off the M700 and go with that one. _____________________________________________________ No safe queens!

i think clayman is right. i have an rsm in 458 lott. if was not planning on doing some hunting with it, i would probably prefer a remington, if they offered in that caliber. loose the brake. i really like no. 1 rifles, but just am no so wild about ruger bolt guns.

The RSM is far the better big game rifle, but is awful heavy for a .375. Find a used Whitworth for about $800. A shot not taken is always a miss

I have owned as many as three of the RSM's and for the dollar invested, a whole bunch of value in a firearm. If you were to attempt to go custom build and include all the features of the RSM's your price tag would be much higher than what you pay for an RSM. 375HH RSM is a pound or two heavier than I would like, mine tips the scale without scope 10lbs., but it is very easy to shoot recoil wise and functions like a Rolex and very, very accurate. Acquaintance of mine has the Rem. 700 you are looking at and will say it shoots just fine, but perceived recoil is much sharper than the RSM. After half a dozen shots or so, he is asking me to shoot his and he shoot mine. His functions fine whether slowly working the bolt or rapidly so can't say anything negative in that area. Would add that if and when you sell the rifle down the road, believe the RSM would hold more resale than the Remington??? For what you say you are going to hunt with it, doubt that any of those game animals will ever know that you are not using a CRF rifle. The combo of the Rem. 700 w/ Leupold optics is a good value package, but I much prefer the RSM over the Remington for sheer overall quality and classic lines. Do whatever your budget calls for and to spend extra bucks for a rifle that will be used probably only a few days out of the year certainly does not justify the extra bucks required. You pays your money and hope for the best!!

+1 dsiteman! I have many Rem 700s and have owned many more The Rem 700 will be much lighter which is good for carrying but will of course recoil more. I have RSMs in 416 Rigby and Lott and love the rifles. Handle and inspect both rifles in question and decide for yourself what is right for you. Although I have 375s in a CZ 550 and 2 M70s I ponder getting a Rem 700 375 for a "light" all around 375. Go figure. My mantra is buy what you like and shoot the heck out of it. You can always buy another rifle to try out after that John There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!
