Would it be possible to rebore and rechamber a Ruger MK II RSML in 416 Rigby to 460 Weatherby? Not sure how much barrel steel is in one of them.

How about relined to 378 Weatherby Magnum?Wouldn't want to rebarrel, since about the only thing I like on those Rugers are the quarter rib with express sights and the front sight boss.

And in case you are wondering-the 416 Rigby cartridge puts me right to sleep.Don't ask me why.

If it's a newer Ruger, they are .750" at the muzzle.

How about a .450 Rigby or .475Mbogo? Even going to .475 cal, there would be .137" barrel wall thickness at the muzzle. That would be enough, wouldn't it?

The 460 WBY conversion of a Ruger 416 has always intriqued me as you would get three in the mag and 1 in the pipe which is far better than the 460 WBY. The Ruger is also a much better action than the WBY IMHO. You could send your gun to Cliff Labounty and have it rebored and rechambered. I believe 470 MBOGO had his rebored and rechambered to .475 with no problems. With that said,I have heard that there may be some Ruger barrels with the screw holes cut too deep into the barrel on some of the newer
barrels to allow for reboring which would preclude this approach. I think Cliff knows what serial number range this applies too. I know it will work on some Rugers, but not others.
You cannot reline a rifle such as this for a 378 WBY.No decent gunsmith would ever do this. Relining is only used on relatively low pressure rounds not for calibers in the 378 class.
With all that said, I know you will be waiting for about a year to get this reboring done. It's far easier to have a good gunsmith fit a 460 WBY barrel and chamber to your Ruger and mount a Dakota Rib and a nice set of express sights. Figure on spending about $800-$1000. I'll bet the rebore/rechamber won't be that much cheaper.-Rob

Robgunbuilder,

Around three years ago,Cliff wanted about $250 on average to rebore/rechamber.I heard about six months ago that he almost doesn't want to take on any more new projects, since he was at that time a year and a half behind.

I just realized that the Rugers only have 23-24 inch barrels.A 460 with that length of barrel would be kind of like a 22 inch 264 Winny.

If I end up with the one I'm dealing on,I'll probibly just trade it off on a Mark V Weatherby in 378.

Thanks for the info though.

The screw holes aren't an issue on the big M77, as the 1/4 rib is integral. You can go up to 500 A-square no problem.
