Charles_HelmWhitworth .458 Rings/Bases
Yet another in the endless series of questions I should be able to answer for myself.
I have a Whitworth Safari Express in .458 WM and intend to put a Leupold 1.5-5x20 on it. I have Talley bases and rings on another rifle and it is harder than it should be to see the iron sights over the bases. If I can find a set of the Warne Premier rings and bases are they a better bet? I could also go Weaver with Leupold QRW rings if I can find steel bases.
Any other votes? Anyone want to guess low or medium rings on this? Any votes for gloss over matte on this rifle?
I need to get all this ordered so I can drop the whole mess off for some gunsmithing.
Thanks in advance for any input.

GeronomoYes the Warnes work with the Whitworth. I have two and put a pair on each gun. Works like a charm.

Charles_HelmThanks. Did you go low or medium on the rings?

fla3006These are Warne bases on my Whitworth, can see over them fine w/o the scope. Weaver-types should work too.

Charles_HelmThanks. I hate to sound like a broken record but do you know if they are low or medium rings?
I really appreciate the help.
(I like the rifle, but then I like pretty much all of them you post.)

invader66I got Warne QD rings and bases from Brownells for my Whitworth 375 H&H. I have the part #'s here somewhere if you want them.

Thanks. I have the base numbers but was unsure which ring height to use.

Thank you. Now to get hold of some Premier rings in medium, gloss most likely.

Frank MartinezCharles, I always opt for the flat or dull in scopes and if you can get bases and rings that way I would go that way also.

I usually do as well. I guess the gloss or non-matte just seems to match the bluing on the Whitworth better. What do you think?

Frank MartinezThe matt of my Leupolds do seem to look better than the gloss and they don't add to any glare on sunny days.

Yes, I like the matte look better and am thus a bit torn on the whole subject. A small roadblock in completing the project.

bobcCharles, I have Talley bases and rings on my Whitworth 375 and have no trouble seeing the express irons sights over the bases. Don't know if the 458 is configured somewhat differently, though. Bob

Thanks for the input. Maybe it is just the setup of my other rifle that caused the problem.
