Wow...that is large! Stock design was so different back then!

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Is that one of those 55 Boyes (sp?) rifles? I have a book that talks about their intense recoil, no one wanted to shoot it.

Nickudu: Thanks for the post. It seems quite possible that rifle still exists somewhere; I can't imagine it getting "used up" nor parted out. I am not sure I believe the quote about the recoil, though. Any round ball load in a 26-pounder would have to be pretty mild.

I think that the ML is a "Wall gun", not an ele. rifle. A Wall gun, was used for long range sniping, from a defensive position, ie; a fortress wall.

The sights are set up for long range shooting. A smooth bore is quicker to reload than a rifle. While it is a neat weapon, I think it got mislabeled because of it's bore size.

Tyler
The 1917 Mauser and the Boys rifle are from back in the day when men were men, and not afraid of a little recoil (and considering that they were shooting tanks with these things at "normal" DG ranges, you know they had big brass ones) Big Grin
The cartridge fired by that rifle is the one on the left, #2 is a 50BMG (for scale), #3 is the 55 Boys, and #4 is a Vickers HV MG round

Been done about fifty different ways already by about 500 different guys for about the last 50 years.

I'm doing one right now in .666" called the 666 Teufel. Dies should be along any day. Looks like a giant 505 Gibbs.

There's guns than look like they'd be fun to shoot and then there's guns that look like they'd be fun to watch someone else shoot.

I think that big Mauser would be one of those that'd be fun to watch someone else shoot a time or two.

The 666 Teufel should be unique as hell!
The .550 and .395 calibers are merely re-incarnations of old .

I don't think anyone has made a .666-caliber before. Will the bullets for the .666 Teufel be made of silver?

I think I'm rapidly approaching the price of silver bullets with these bigger calibers.

The first 666 bullets will be copper FN's.

Dust off your Ammomaster RIP!! I'll be sending you the dies for "validation"..... hillbilly

Cute! but I am prone to stop at the 45's as I am only planning to shoot things from the planet earth. Wink OK! maybe a 50!
The version I'm familiar with is a straightened and necked 50BMG to .700. The bullet was a 1000gr VLD solid and the chrono was showing just a bit over 3100. The gentleman did shoot some 750 gr bullets but I don't remember the velocities. This was about 8 or nine years ago. Single shot bolt gun.

Robgunbuilder on here did that a few years
ago, so it might be him your referring to. His case blown out, with a small shoulder, is full length, shoots .700 cal. My 700 has no
shoulder, just a belt, is straight, full length.
Both have same power. Ed.
