So I've fired again, and decided the .416 Rigby that has been sitting in the safe for 3 years is going to Zim next year. I'm not a hand loader. My question - why does Hornady factory ammo appear to be 1/2 the price of Federal?

simple answer: Federal is over priced.

Not a thing wrong with Hornady. I used Federal for many years until they priced themselves over-the-top. We who do not handload should give Hornady our strongest support for producing effective big bore ammunition at an acceptable price.

Because Steve Hornady, in addition to being a great innovator and entepreneur, doesn't feel the need to gouge his customers.
