The rifle below is my new Montana Rifle Company DGR in .416 Rigby. The folks at the Montana Rifle Company build a quality rifle, and for my money, they fill the nitch between an off the shelf rifle and high end custom. At a base price of $2195, the cost is also closer to a production piece. I added a barrel band / front sling swivel to mine as I did not like the front swivel in the forestock in a Big Bore. The action is as slick as they come, and at the range, this rifle put 4 shots into a ragged hole at 100 yards using 400 gr Barnes X triple shock bullets and RL22. The scope is a Trijicon 1-4. This rifle is a great companion to the double rifle I take to Africa.

Nice looking rifle, and I love your scope choice. Is that a CZ stock that the action is in? Mike

Mike - no - it is not a CZ stock. Montana Rifle Company makes everything in house - actions, barrels, stocks - the works. At the price, I think it is a real bargain for an all American made semi custom.

Nice looking rifle. I've often thought about the Rigby but since I have all the stuff for the .416 Remington, I guess I will stick with it. And it sounds like it shoots as well as it looks. Congratulations.

Very nice, Admiral. As soon as MRC brings their left-hand actions out, I may just join you. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Give me the simple life; an AK-47, a good guard dog and a nymphomaniac who owns a liquor store.

Mike - I fly to Harare on 27 March. Mike Payne is taking me trout fishing for a few days before we start our hunt in the Save. Buffalo and plains game (nyala) are on the docket this year with the possibility of a leopard as well. We will have to trade stories when we get back from our hunts! Dave

Great price point. Is this a Mauser-like control-feed action? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition” ― Rudyard Kipling

Yes - it is a Mauser style controlled round feed action. There is a great writeup on this rifle in the November / December 2012 issue of Safari magazine. Jon Sundra really gave this rifle a good writeup.

Very nice Admiral. I keep looking for MRC to come out with a left handed PH action. I was one of the first guys in on the "Charter Offer" for the model 1999 actions when they came out (single digit Serial No.) and I've been really pleased with it over the years. Pago-- Just decide on your final outcome level. If you want 5100 ft lbs., then the 416Rem is great. If you want 6100 ftlbs., then you'll need to get some 416 Rigby dies and brass. Lyman and Hornady provide good, reliable stuff at normal prices. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

Jeff brought a selection of his big bores AND A BUNCH OF AMMO to last years Big Bore Safari Challenge shoot. They let the competitors shoot whatever they wanted as much as they wanted. It was great fun and their rifles were as nice as they come. I am seriously considering a 505 Gibbs that he let me shoot. Great guns and a great company!
