As I try to make my choice as to which 375 I want, I come to yet another road block. The gun will probably see a bit of elk hunting as well as Africa, so having a S/S rifle might have its advantages, but I'm into tradition and that would mean a blue/wood rifle. So here is my question, on the winchester m70 classic, are the weights given on both the S/S and blue/walnut models for the 375 H&H accurate? If they aren't accurate, which I believe I read they are not, could you please give me the actual weight of the rifles. Thanks so much. Sevens

My M70 Classic Express in 416 weighed 10.2 lbs from the factory with a 1.75-6 VX-III on it. It has a pretty dense (fine-grained) stock.

you can wager a 8oz +/- range for factory rifles, with wood stocks, probably 2-4oz for tupperware stocks... since a 375 doesnt really kick, 8# would be a tad light... jeffe

I have found that they weigh about a pound more than they claim. Why they do this baffles me. The 416 weighed 9.1 or 9.2 pounds, so a 375 is going to weigh even more (same wood stock). The stainless steel version w/the plastic stock weighed about 8.3 pounds.

Jeffe, I'm confused by your comment about a 375 not kicking hard and 8 pounds being a tad light. I would assume if it didn't kick hard you would want a standard 30-06 weight gun. Sevens

Hmmm, I've never weighed my .375H&Hs, but the Sako was reported to be 7 3/4lbs., and my M-70 was listed at 9lbs. back in 1997. I carried that M-70 about 65 kilometers on one 14-day safari. The first day was tough, but after that, I never thought about it. Why burden yourself with such minutiae? George

The Winchester catalog says my 2001 Model 70 .375 weighs 8.5 lbs but it is actually 8.75 bare. With Leupold 1.5 X 5 in Leupold QD mounts, a nylon sling, and 4 rds ammo it comes in at 10.5 lbs.

I had a M70 in .458WM & it weighed 8.5# OOTB. A bit too light for me.
