.416 Rigby - to crimp or not to crimp...
that is the question. I have started reloading for my .416 Rigby. Are you guys crimping or not? I am using standard RCBS dies and notice the bullet seats well with good contact in the neck... however don't want compacted loads due to recoil... so is Lee the only folks custom making crimp dies?

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

My RCBS 416 Rigby dies put a very nice crimp on the case. I never even think about NOT crimping. I crimp All loads.

RCBS dies will crimp, as good as any. Read the instructions. Smiler

Should crimp.

If the bullet you are using has a bevelled crimping groove (like the Rhino bullets or even the NorthFork bullets) then the RCBS crimp is fine. If you are using bullets with no crimping groove or if the crimping "groove" is in fact a recessed band, then the Lee Factory Crimp works well. I wouldn't use the RCBS crimp on a non-cannelured bullet, I usually get shoulder bulge if I do.

I once received the advice from a very experienced African PH that all cartridges from 9.3 and up need a crimp.

I´ve stuck with his advice and have not had any problems.
