Jim Wisner used to, and still might, make replicas. I also just saw an original one at a gun show for $125. Lee Penwell, from Slana, AK has it for sale. Maybe one of the other folks here has his address as he is at most Alaskan gunshows Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

If this is the one you are looking for it is a Wisner product. Last I heard they were going to make a run of them this spring. ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

For clarification, the sight pictured and made by Wisner was used on the 458s, not 375s. The 375 used a much smaller 2 leaf sight that folded flat and was drifted into a base. Later 375s still used a 2 leaf but it was on a roller and did not lay flat. Both sights are very hard to find and I am not aware of anyone that is making a reproduction.

I will agree with prewar, to my knowledge the sight pictured was only used on 458's. That said, they in my opinion are a great way to go, give you elevation and windage without any filing. I have an original that is going on a project rifle. Jim's is an improvement, something to do with the screw that moves the sight blade fore and aft. I'll use his on the next one that needs it. André, if you are thinking about using Talley scope mounts, it may be that the Brockman rear scope mount base with the integrated pop-up peep sight might fit. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I have those Wisner sights on two of my rifles, they are a reproduction of the Winchester sight used on the ".458 African" model. Regards, Terry Msasi haogopi mwiba [A hunter is not afraid of thorns]

Gentlemen Thanks for all the great information. I will try to get the e-bay sight. I am not interested in the .458 African model a good sight but to bulky and not original. I use a scope on the rifle but would like to have the open sights for back up. I also have a side mounted peep sight sight that can be used if the scope is borken. I just realized that my rifle is set up for a rear sight like the African model I am planing on puting a 42mm scope on the rifle to get the scope down lower and the African sight would get in the way. I guess that is why the instaled the side mounted peep sight in the first place. Maybe I should go old school and put the side mounted G&H mount ojn and get a 1" tube scope??? Looks nice! The G&H scope mount would be dandy on that type of rifle...or else Golmatic makes a nice sidemount that copies the H&H sidemount! When are you going to the shootingrange? Been awhile hasn`t it? DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Chapters in Sweden & Norway

Andre, Your rifle is not set up for the 458 style sight, the hole spacing is correct for the 375 style sight. That sight incorporates a low profile rectangular base that screws into the holes on your barrel. The base is dovetailed in the middle and then the sight that you see on Ebay is drifted into the base. I would also definitely try to find a G&H mount to cover those holes. If you find the correct G&H mount, it will be much easier to find a Lyman 48 WJS peep sight to install and remove the base that is currently on it. The Lyman 48 is a fantastic sight and more accuracte than the barrel mounted leaf sight. Original 375 sights are harder to find than the 458 African island sights.

Prewar I have the Original G&H side mounth with one inch rings and the 4X weawer scope that came with the rifle. However I hunt with the dang thing and lke modern scopes such as the 2.5-10x42 Zeiss Variopoint and think that the lowest and most stable mount si the Leupold weawer mount. This rifle is my all round rifle and I load with 270 grn Rhino bullets. Jens I will be at the range this summer - trust me. Cheers, André Always always use enough... GUN & KNIFE
