Time to scope my 376 Pro Hunter and was wondering what rings to buy.....I'd like to use low rings but wonder if the bolt will clear.......I'll be using a Burris Signature 2 X 8 scope... Still debating on which mounts to use.....can't bring myself to pay what Talley costs.....I'm thinking about using steel weaver bases and burris zee rings?????

GonHuntin, My .376 Steyr ProHunter came with Talley bases & 30 mm rings with the scope mounted. I measured the height of the bases, and they are about .35" high. I have called Talley before and asked for help in sizing rings, and found them to be very helpful. I expect they will do as well for you. jim dodd

Howdy Mark. I'm doing the exact same dance as you today. I just ordered a Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5-6 X 42 today for my .376, and I've had two sets of Burris Signature rings delivered and waiting to see if I'd end up w/ a 1" or 30mm tube (this is a 30mm). I also have rings in medium and high waiting to see what works. I'll just return what I don't use. I had Talley's on my .375 H&H M-70 that I sold, and liked em, but couldn't justify the $$ now. My question is regarding reticles now, as I've learned that I've got an option: regular 'nikoplex', or should I go with the german # 4? Any comments would really be helpful. Thank you, Robert

RC My original intention was to use a Burris 1.5 X 6 Signature Series scope on the 376....I have that scope on a couple other rifles and I really like it.....but I already had the 2 X 8 so I figure I'll use it for now. Let me know which rings work! Can't help on the reticle......I think it's a matter of personal taste.....

I found out last year that I wasnt able to use the low rings on mine. I had to use medium height to get the correct clearance.

I put a Leo 1.5x5 on mine but I could only use med to high mounts because of bolt clearence. I noticed that there is a lot of meat on the bolt handle right at the bend. I talked to my smith about dishing the top of the bolt handle out a little bit. He said that the handle would still be strong enough to not break. He only took a few thousandths off the top, just enough to allow for handle/scope clearence. I can take the bolt, pull it all the way back and try to hit the scope but can't. I got the Leo 1.5x5 on Leo low mounts. The little gun throws up like its ment to, looks better too. A bigger bell on a diff scope might be more of a problem. STEVE

I had the Steyr SBS Forester in 6.5X55 that I mounted a B&L elite 1.5-6X36 on. I really needed the medium rings, as the low rings allowed the curve of the bolt handle to drag along the eyepiece of the scope. I'd go with the medium height rings and you should be fine.
