Well folks, after a few months of waiting, she is finally home. Last April I decided to get some custom work done on my Winchester M70 stainless in 375 H&H. Here are the result...

Rebarrel with a stainless match grade .375 Pac-Nor 1/10 twist 6 groove barrel
Williams stainless steel extractor
Winchester Ultra Mag box and follower
NECG open sights
NECG stainless steel Allen head M70 trigger guard screws
Leupold QRW steel bases

Barrel was chambered in 375 RUM with a Pacific tool and gauge reamer.
The magazine box hold 3 down plus one in the chamber. To make sure it would feed anything, I supplied my gunsmith with 3 dummie rounds seated with 300gr Barnes banded solids. My thought process was, if it will feed flat nose solids, it will feed anything, and it does! All the metal parts where Cerakoted with a graphite black H series Cerakote, (oven cured).

All this wonderful work was done by Lyle Linkaitis of Ultimate Accuracy. He lives in Manitoba, just north of Winnipeg for those who do not know him. I'm extremely happy with the work Lyle has done. I will attach a few pictures of the finished product for those interested. Feel free to comment.

I hope you enjoy...

Maurice

Well Dan 416. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You seem the only one so far lol...

A few more details. Stock is an Accurate Innovations. Rifle weight without scope is 9 pounds 6 ounces. With scope it tops at 10.5 pounds. I snapped a few pictures in my back yard this morning. Hope you enjoy.

Nice rifle! I'm having my Rem XCR II in 375 H&H rechambered to 375 Weatherby as we speak. It should be done this weekend. It will weigh 7 1/2 lbs with scope. Some folks just can't leave well enough alone lol ...

Congrats on a nice rifle.

Chuck

Very cool rifle indeed tu2 I've been considering such a conversion on my M70 and was wondering where and/or how you came about aquiring the mag box and follower...

I like the look and the added Williams extractor. I didn't notice is you have experienced the 375 RUM before this one. I wonder about the sharpness of the recoil. The only one I fired had vents by the front sights. I was pleasantly surprised both with the handling of the recouil and how hard hitting the caliber seems to be. Hopefully you'll enjoy it and put it to good use.

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback.

DGR Shooter: I purchased the mag box and follower from Western Gun parts in Alberta Canada. They are Winchester's official parts supplier up here. This mag box and follower were designed by Winchester for the M70 when they chambered them in 300 Ultra Mag.

Brevex: I never owned a 375 RUM before this one. I have loaded over 10 lbs of RE15 in my H&H over the last 8 years. I was averaging 2750 fps with 270 gr TSX. I'm planning in using H4350 with the TSX in the RUM. I will start low and stop when I get 1/2 groups at 100 yards. I'm targeting a velocity of 2800 to 2850 fps. At such velocities, recoil will be very comparable to the H&H but at much lower pressure.

I shoot left handed so I purchased a couple of left hand Rem 700 338 Rem Ultra Mags in stainless. Had ER Shaw spin a 26 inch 375 Ultra mag Barell on action. A load of 95 grains of IMR 4831 with a 300 grain Barnes TTS is registering 2,875 FPS and grouping inside of .750 inches. The 375 Ultra rocks-on both ends--you will appreciate the weight in your rifle.

Enigma......Great looking stock! Also love the fact it is a model 70 Winchester and that does not get any better in my eyes. Caliber wise it should no doubt serve you well by golly! Good Luck with your new toy sir.

I was debating if I should post the video taken yesterday or not. My wife is against me posting it telling me its dorky and I'm to serious. I replied that guns are serious business. In one ear out the other Roll Eyes Anyways since some people asked me about the recoil and that a picture is worth a thousand words, I will post it. To view the video, click on the picture below. By the way folks, don't expect anything fancy lol .

That recoil is like a maiden's sweet kiss. My 500 Jeffery with 25 lbs of weight on the lead sled makes the whole lead sled jump back 3 inches and knocks my head gear off lol ...

Smiler

I totally agree with you chuck. However, I watched this video in slow motion and it does kick me around a bit. Whats deceiving is the speed at which it recoils. All in all, it is a very pleasant gun to shoot off the bench, mind you, I am still far away from its full potential.

I have used Ramshot Hunter 86 gr. with a 300 gr Sierra for 1/2" 3 shot group> I did not chrony it yet. My deer load is Hornady 225 gr. with 57 gr of AA5744. This load did 2550 over the chrony. It is a very nice shooting load. I did work up to 61 gr. of 5744 with 2700 fps but it was no more accurate than the 57 gr. load and 2550 was enough for Northern Mn. deer.

Enjoy that fine looking rifle.

Thanks TJAY. Right the only two powders I have are H4350 and H4831sc. I will use H4350 with copper bullets, and H4831sc with the regular bullets. I'm only starting out load testing and should come up with more results in the next month or so.

Going to be right behind you with my Rem XCR II in 375 Weatherby. Just got her back. I'm going to start out with 350g Woodleigh PPs at 2550 fps which I have a bunch of. I'm thinking H4350 too... I may switch to 300g Nosler Partitions at 2700 fps for my brown bear hunt though.

Chuck

Some guys don't care for the 375 rum. I personally think it is a good cartridge. I have owned and shot 2 different rifles in 375 rum and liked both of them.Laminated stock looks pretty cool too.

Thanks! Taking it to the range with my youngest son on Saturday for just coarse sight in (25 yards) and shooting some DWJ (dangerous water jugs). I'll sight it in the following weekend for real. Going after "Hogzilla" with it in late July. I've got a brown bear hunt in Sept with Bristol Bay Outfitters in the Togiak Refuge which is what I bought it for. It weighs just under 7 1/2 lbs with scope, unloaded.

Chuck
