Gentlemen It was a rainy morning in The Kingdom of Denmark and I was on my way to my gunsmith with a couple of rifles that needed a bit of work done. We sad and talked about converting one of my k98 Obendorf Mausers to a sporting rifle. The action on this rifle is very well done but just not top notch. We talked about the different actions and both agreed on that the DWM 1909 Argentine was number one and the VZ-24 was a close runner up. However I did not have such an action and knew of no one that had one for sale, for a fair price that is, Hartmann & Weiss have them but they charge and arm and a leg. Then the Gunsmith said that he had heard of a old man that just turned his whole collection of Army rifles over to a gunstore. This was due to the new law regarding mandatory gunsafes in my country. The old man did not want to buy a safe that could hold the 72 rifle collection, it was just too much trouble for the old gipper. I drove directly from the gunsmith to the Gunstore, 24 minutes flat. And when I walked in this is what I saw. The collection was down to about 56 rifles and I was like a little child in a candy store. I knew that if his collection was that big then there had to be a Argentine 1909 Cavalry Carbine 7.65mm and maybe also a Rifle version. And there where both... I was furthermore a very happy chap when I found out that I could take both for about $ 600. The rifles was ranging from $300-800. I wish that all the AR members was there to take care of business. If any of you are looking for sonething spefific then let me know. The collection also included a Steyr made 98 and a VZ-24 with out crest and they are put a side for my friend and AR member PhilipDK who is returning from The North sea today. Now all there is left is what to build I would love a 8X68s but the action is to short for that calibre I think. So I am thinking about a 7X64 or 308 Norma Magnum a .404 would also be neat to have, but I do not have the need for one. I also might go for the old .275 Rigby (7X57) Ginger or Mary-Ann ? I will post more pictures of both rifles when I get them cleaned. Cheers, Andr

Rather a spot of luck that, what? Drat! The mathematical rule of the non-occurance of events always seems to ensure that that sort o' thing only happens to some other chap a long ways away. Have a ex-sister-in-law who lives in Denmark but 'm hardly on speakin' terms with the wife's brother, let alone his ex. Doubt she'd be of any help here, don'tcherknow. I say, Jeff, how about a .318 WR . . .? Red stag, boar, elg and bear in the Baltic States . . . could be decent choice, what say?

I think it was made in Detroid by GM but I am not surer, did they make them ? you must know more about it then I do. Cheers, Andr

Sorry but I do not know a lot about M1 Carbines. They used to be throwaways here, but now a junky one has an asking price of $450. A very nice one from WWII can bring double that. The M1 Carbine had 2 problems. First, they seldom shot better than a 1 foot group at 100 yards. Second, even if they hit their target (game, human), the target often did not know it was hit. But they are fun, and good for kids to play around with.

The one in mint condition is from 1941. I also think that it is toy gun with a BB gun calibre and a short stock. But I think that the Germans will tell us otherwise from theit first hand experience on D-Day In the collection where also a Endfield with that P17 action. It was a 30.06. I think that it was very ruged in comparision to the DWM's. But if you need a long action then it will do the job. Cheers, Andr
