Big Bore, Long Range, and 2 Ton Targets

Well, I had a blast Saturday. Got to do some "plinking" with the 1 1/2" bore.

I was invited to a Machine gun shoot, (even though I do not have any myself). They were kind enough to let me bring my "Artillery" to shoot with them.

I guess they needed some heavy support.

They started it with a real BLAST.

My shooting postion

This is a three consecutive shot group at 200 yds (from a smooth bore).

Exit wound

Here is another one, Missed centering the windshield. Note entry at the top center and exit over drivers door.

Hit at 300 yds.

Exit on 300 yd hit.

Hit the truck again with the next shot in the center of the door. A storm blew in shortly after that and I was not able to get a picture. Hope to get one later on.

Got to make up some more powder bags and projectiles.

Thanks for sharing Keith. It looks like you have that jewell well zeroed. What powder adjustments are you having to make when extending your distance?

Frank, I use the same 2 1/2oz powder charge for all of my shooting. To adjust aiming for different ranges, I use the acme threaded screw under the breech of the gun. The projectile weighs 1lb 12oz, or 12,250gr. This load will cause the 256 lb. gun to recoil 4-5 feet.

Recoil calculater gave me this info.

12,250gr projectile
1094 gr powder charge
1400 fps (just a guess)
256 lb gun wt.

486 ft lbs of recoil @ 11 fps

ps: I also have a canister load of 72 .50" RB, Then there are the tracer rounds made with modified M-17 BMG projectiles. To bad HE is a no no.
