I noticed that this year CZ is offering a CZ 550 American with a classic design stock in 9.3 X 62 and optional single set trigger. Retail is 540 to 655 dollars.

Even without a question, I've got the answer!

As to the CZ part of it, the 9.3x62 can save about 2 lbs. in weight over the .375 and the straight stock I would prefer.

The 9.3x62 has a tad bit of romanticism attached to it but is basically a .375 wannabe. So take your choice.

I wouldn't mind having one, but what I would do with it, I have no idea! It could rake a once-in-a-lifetime whitetail, I suppose, but then so could a .375.

So maybe I'll get one just for the heck of it.

No question. I was making an observation that this might be a big bore rifle capable of taking large African game practically ready to hunt right out of the box. And for a very reasonable price compared to other big bores. I cant beleive they didn't put a hump backed, kicking, worthless stock on it like the 550 Safari.

Come to think of it, I do have a question. Has anyone shot this model yet? If you have, what is your opinion of it?

I have one of the "humpback kickers" and find it pleasant to shoot. I don't mind the European design. Looks like my father's nose. It is a MOA shooter with factory Norma ammo and 11/2" with Nosler 286gr partitions and 54.7 gr N201.

Craftsman,

If you realy like the CZ 550 Safari (I have one in .458 Win Mag), this model is not available in 9.3X62. I have seen all model from CZ and the 550 Mag Safari is great.

The Cz 550 Mag is a realy big action (2 lbs more than American model), if you have project for big game hunting and dangerous game in Africa I can advice you this model (550 Mag) not American one.

There is more possibilities with a CZ 550 Mag. for instance to rechamber into other calibers--> .458 Win Mag into .458 Lott, .357 H&H into .375 RUM. this with a little job of you gunsmith because of big action.

9.3X62 is a little bit slower than .375 H&H with same bullet weigh. For big game 9.3X62 is enough but for dangerous game...?????

Whatever is your choice CZ rifles are great, goo price, good accuracy,.....

BER007, thanks for the info.

Dr DUC, I would really like to examine one of their manlicher stocked rifles. Could be really nice.

The full stock 9.3x62 is a nice rifle for the money. It lacks the refinement that you will find on the Sako or Steyr mannlichers, but the claw extractor makes up for it. I put on a butterknife handle, Old English pad and ERA sights.

The sights can be ordered direct from the importer http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com

The bolt handles are made by
http://www.gunguide.com/~shines/page6.html

Both can be ordered from Brownells.
The screw holes in the CZ barrel will have to be retapped to 6x48.

E-mail for pics on how the CZ turned out.
