I saw some talk of this in an earlier threads but was wanting some more info. I have thought of ordering a New England custom guns rear peep sight. Anyone using one? What would be the advantage. Thanks.

I would like to hear about the NECG sight also. On rear peeps the advantage is quick sight aquistion and longer sight plane. THis a subjective thing, but there is a reason most iron sighted military rifles use this type of sight. Simply it works, and quick accurate sight picture is what its about.

DOn't know if you have used one, its look through the hole on the rear reciever, line up the front bead where you want to shoot, and squeeze the trigger. The rear aperature size governs the real world use of these sights. For hunting and real quick work a big aperture hole is desired. For target work a small aperature is desired.

One of those things I think falls into like them or not, I do, every rifle the Army ever put in my hands had them and buckhorn and soldiers on parade are a very distant second in my opinion.

If this is the sight your referring to:

I have one on my No.1 458 lott. It works very well, stays put (no.1 458 lotts are notorious for recoil), and was easy to install. They're not cheap, though, but are worth every penny. It comes with two aperatures also.

I'm of the opinion that the NECG peep sights are as good as any as far as a "PEEP" sight is concerned. BUT; if you are looking for fast target acquisition from a fixed reciever sight, I'd lean towards a ghost ring style sight that does not obstruct as much from your field of view. The sights from XS and Brockman are better suited on a DGR IMHO. The NECG blocks much of your field of view. You cannot remove the aperture on the NECG as it locks the elevation slide into position. You can remove the aperture from the XS and Brockman versions almost ghosting out the entire rear sight.
