For those of you who shoot the 458 Lott and have fired the 458 winchester magnum through it , how is the accuracy with the 458 winchester loads compared with same bullet weight in the Lott?

Rifle: Ruger No.1 458 Lott Bullet: 350gr Hornady jacketed soft nose The Lott seems a little more accurate in this rifle, but not significantly so. I shoot 458 win. mag during deer season, and still get excellent accuracy.

I just installed a Timney Trigger on my Ruger M77 Lott this weekend. Only had a box of factory winchester 458 ammo with 510 gr. woodleighs. Decided to try them just to see how the rifle shot. I was pleasantly surprised to see a 3-shot clover leaf from the bench at 100 yds. I am curious if repeated use of win mag ammo will have any negative effects on the lott.

I don't have experience with the same weights in the Lott and Win Mag but my rifle shot very well with both 350 grain Win Mag handloads and 500 grain full power Lott loads. They didn't impact in the same place though.

I have fired some Win. Mag. ammo through my Lott and accuracy has been very good. Plenty good enough for hunting purposes. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Gents, Is the extra .3 of an inch of the Lott considered long throating for the 458 Win.? Will this cause erosion at the point where the 458 Win. case dies? Roger QSL
