Guys I just wanted to pass this along. I used to shoot a .416 Rem built from a TC Icon action. It shot great but didn't function well. The load was a 370 gr CEB Safari Raptor and 75.5 gr of Varget powder. It shot less than an inch. I was recently working up a load for a new Win Model 70 .416 Rem. A good friend had great luck from his Model 70 with RL15 at 79.5 and 79 gr with the 370 Raptor. I tried both of those and got 1" groups with the 79gr load and 1.25" with the 79.5 gr load. I was OK with that. I did have some leftovers of my old Varget load, so I decided to try them. The 75.5 gr Varget with the 370 gr CEB Safari Raptors shot a big ragged hole for a 5 shot group at 100 yards- so I will stick with that one. Just some data to pass along for anyone working up a load for my all around favorite caliber. Interestingly the gun also shot Winchester Factory 400 gr Partitions and Nosler factory 400 gr solids at 1-1.25". The gun seems to shoot about anything you feed it pretty well, and you could mix and match ammo and stay within a 2" POI. Tim- I have a Model 70 in 458 Lott and it acts the same way. Likes about anything you feed it. Love those Winchester rifles. The only easy day is yesterday!

I've often wondered about using a 250-300 gr bullet in a .416 Rem Mag. That has the potential to make one heck of a long range elk/bear killer, if you could stablize the bullets. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

I think Skip Nantz was testing see 300 gr CEB's in his .416. We are going to Burkina Faso together next week, and we both thought that would be a heck of a load for roan. I haven't heard how it shot yet. But you are right, elk, moose, bear, it would be pretty awesome. Good Hunting, Tim Herald Worldwide Trophy Adventures tim@trophyadventures.com

Not a .416 but so far my M70 shoots anything you put in it. 235 gr. tsx 270 gr. speer 300 gr. speer, partitions and nosler solids I even had to redo the loads when I couldn't find any varget a couple of years ago. Never missed a beat. I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Ive killed a lot of Buffalo with 78 grs. of RL-15 and the 400 gr. Woodliehs. Noslers, and the North Forks and GS Customs in my 416 Remingtons. I think the North Forks and GS customs were 350 and 370 grs. or visa versa..at any rate they all worked like a charm..The 416 Rem is quite a round, and makes up into a smaller trimmer rifle than the Rigby and I personally liked that. The 350 gr. bullets are dandys for DG and PG..and shoot flatter n flitter..about the same as a 180 30-06 it seems..Ross Seyfried shot a lot of DG including more than a few Buffalo with the 350 gr. bullets in his .416 and spoke highly of it.. Im old school and my favorite DG .416 Load is probably the 450 gr. Woodleighs at about 2400 to 2500 FPS depending on the barrel length.
