lh cz550 375 to rigby?
hello
i was wondering if you could take a cz550 lh 375h&h and make it a 416 rigby. if so is this action a good one compared to a dakota action?

yes, yes.. and easy...

though it might be cheaper to sell the 375 and buy the 416

i suggest sending your 375 to AHR, have them fit a take off 416 barrel, and rechamber, if required.

then again, a 416 rem, which would be sending it to mcgowen to get the same barrel profile, would offer the same ext ballistics of the rigby, and hold at least one more down

remember to change the magazine Box!!! I see too many conversions to fatter cases where the cartridges keep poping out of the mag when you cycle the action roughly. At SCI looked at a new Kilamjaro .505 that wouldn't keep shiny new rounds in the mag when you cycled the action fast or loaded in a hurry- wrong magazine box! Doctari's .505 - same problem and have seen it with a coulple of conversions to .416 Rigby over the years. Of course the worst offenders were .404 and .425's built on converted military actions for the african 'trade' but the same warning applies. Wayne van Zwoll had a good article on this in a recent G&A and have seen somebody post the cosign rule for mag box'shere on the forum. Also remember that the front of the mag (measured at the case shoulder) and the back of the mag need to be the correct size.

.416 rem is just a barrel swop. CZ use one 'generic' mag box for all belted cases.

Thank you Jeffe,

We have converted quite a few CZ LH 375's to just about everything larger. We have a pile of new take-off barrels that we'd like to get rid of. The conversion to a different caliber and our upgrades are the same on the LH's as on the RH's.

STay with the 416 Rigby if you handload. The Rigby is a whole level higher in performance than the 375 HH when handloaded to close to Weatherby levels: 350 grain bullets at 2800 fps. The 25 grain increased capacity in the Rigby needs handloading to be properly used. It is a waste of design to load the Rigby down to 'factory' and Remington levels. The Rigby is made for 6000-6100+ ftlb levels.

The whole point of the rigby IS low pressure. If you want .416 Weatherby performance , chamber in .416 Weatherby! then at leasst you get cases designed and tested to handle those pressures.

Also, you can experience all the joys of bullet failure and all the usual reasons African PH's either hate weathery's or down load them!!!

If you don't mind high pressures and want good bullet performcance by a .416 Rem. It has the other advantage of being easy to down load so you can shoot 300grn bullets at (say) 2300fps for easy practice. Downloading the Rigby is a pain because the case is so large.
