458WM or 416REM
Ive got a spare Rem 700 magnum action, I dont know which caliber I want to barrel it in...

458WM or 416Rem...

What do you guys think...
I want something usefull here in Maine as well as my future trips around the globe...

458 downloaded for Deer, black bear, Moose sounds good... and so does 416...

375H&H would be cool but, I dont need another...

Maybe a 26" 375 weatherby?

Hello,
Go for the Lott, 458Lott, and you have best of all worlds for big bore. Standard round these days, actually buy ammo for it if need be, would suggest reloading, but excellent big bore round. Check out the ballistics on a 350 grain bullet or can go all the way to the 600 level. Plus you can shoot the std. 458 Win. Mag. if needed. Great round and can't imagine needing any bigger or smaller. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Plain old win mag on your standard action.A well fitting stock with QD mounts, and raised iron sights, to be close to point of aim of a low mounted scope. Use the scope for your 45 70 type loads, and use the iron sights for DG. A 450gr premium bullet will do everything you want in a DG rifle.Just try to get the comb height to be comfortable with both kinds of sights.

There are people who listen to music, and those that listen to the HiFi.
In the same way, there are shooters and hunters in the true sense, and there are ballistics nerds.

I have a 458 Lott. It was a gift from a good friend. Get one and you have the 458WM if you want it, and a good bit more with the Lott if you need it.

To handloader the Lott is more versatile then .416 or .458WM. It has more power which you're not likely to ever need in the first place. It's a professional guide's cartridge.
.375 Weatherby is a deletrious mutation of H&H case.

The 416 is more versatile IMO. Especially since you handload.

The .458 would be a stopper & for that I would want a CRF. I would go w/ the .416RM. With 350gr bullets it makes a fine heavy PG rifle.
