...this season? If so, what rifle are you hunting with, what load and what are you hunting for? I have a Ruger #1 and a Winchester M95. The #1 is going to be used for deer in Pa. and maybe deer and bear in Maine. Will probably just soot factory loads at this point as 7 boxes came with the M95. Bob

hi RJM, i have a ruger #1 that i use on deer and pigs....and coyotes if i see them. i mostly use a handload of 300 gr cast bullet by mt. baldy w/52 gr of reloader 7. that same load took 2 cape buffalo and 2 impala in zim in 2004 btw. i have also used a 210 gr hollow point pistol bullet load that has worked good on deer and coyotes. the powder was reloader 7 but i cant remember the charge. i'll look it up when i get home and post it later if you're interested. if you have a copy of Ken Warner's Pet Loads it's in there. I hunt deer with an 1885 in 405 during our 'primitive' weapon season. If you can believe it, Mississippi allows that. I have found the 300 gr Barnes X and the 300 gr Hawk to both be very accurate and both perform well. As for the loads, I use Conley Precision and I don't know the powder/weight. After a couple of test sessions, I settled on loads that are extremely accurate in my gun and are chrono'd at +/_ 2450 fps. Of course this is overkill for whitetails, but I much prefer it to a muzzleloader

Not this season because I got a deer with it last season. This year somebody else get's let out of the gun rack to go play Using a Woodleigh 400gr Soft at @ 2,000fps was probably a bit over kill for doe season but it worked. I have a custom #1-B with a 24" Douglas barrel and used Varget based on the data from the Hodgdon website. I've also got a load using a 265gr WNFP bullet with Unique at 1,400 fps that would probably make make venison without a lot of fuss. hth Rick
