So you're saying no rifles were built in India ...?? What's not true..?? They weren't concerned about proprietary cartridge designs..?? Or rifles were serially produced and not one off pieces..?? They weren't made by glorified blacksmiths ...??

Why is it some feel the need to belittle that which they know less than nothing about? Roll Eyes

I'm not belittling 400 - just probing. You're correct in that I know almost nothing about DR's. So like everyone else I'm looking forward to reading your new book when it's ready... Big Grin

Macifej,

Now that is one hell of a bunch of blacksmiths that made and put the rifle in the photo together.

Its just a cobbled together one off, where each piece was hand made, hand fitted and hand finished.

Too f'in bad they couldn't put together a rifle like a machine, the way an M 70 is made, eh?

Geez, those friggin' blacksmiths. They don't get it.

And who the hell that particular group of blacksmith known as H & H think they are, creating their own cartridges and making anyone else who wants to chamber a rifle in one pay a royalty. After seeing their work, why would anyone want one of their rifles in their cartridge, eh?

So you think a guy with some files and hammers can build a better device than a guy with a PC and advanced CNC equipment ...??

I would say that there are some of the handmade rifles made just after the turn of the last century in Birmingham England are for the most part, more elegant, easier to handle, than some of the rifles made today.

Even some CNC parts for doubles and bolt action rifles will require "hand fitting".

I own 2 Okuma "Captain" CNC lathes and a CNC Hurco 42 milling center. The quality of the parts made on those machine are outstanding. It however still requires a craftsman to run those machines.

I tnink that there is no question whatsoever that craftsmen with files, hammers and other tools build the best hunting rifles in the world.

Always have, always will.

Just find me a CNC double rifle that doesn't require any hand fitting and all the parts are interchangeable.

Macifej, now that's just plain irresponsible. Making somebody laugh that hard, I mean, even when they're expecting it. They could seriously injure themselves.

In the event that you weren't joking, well, here's your sign: space

Like I said, a hunting rifle... You have selected a rifle that does not meet that satandard. It isn't entirely machine made either...

A CNC controller is not a craftsman either. He is a programmer.

A proper hunting rifle is made by hand, more or less. That even applies to bolt rifles.

JPK - I've been reading yor posts for almost two years now and every one leads me to believe that you're wound tighter than the spring on a locomotive truck. That's saying a lot cause my buds here think I'm over sprung. All of this is theater my friend just entertainment nothing more.

If you wanna have a serious discussion regarding the virtues and benefits of producing parts with hand tools -vs- automated digital equipment - by all means send it in an e-mail and I'll be happy to consider your POV.

Have a Scotch and enjoy your Blacksmith made Neandergun ... Big Grin

Macifej,

I'd like to apologize and take personal responsiblilty for my not realizing that you were just being humorous.

I should have seen early on that we weren't talking about monolithic bullets for your line of cartridges. Or the rifles you were building for those rounds! I should have been more observant!

Regards,

Rusty

I am wound tighter than the spring on a locomaotive truck.

Your entertainment is yours, I'm here for what I too consider fun. Maybe my version of fun is defferent than yours or mosts, eh?

A neandergun would be one made by machine. No art to it.
