Me too Curtis. The rumor was passed to me by email and came from a discussion at a little gunshop in Ft Worth, Tex. No indication of truth or when but the sooner the better.

I've heard that Winchester will chamber the 94 lever action in 480 next year. I've heard rumors about Ruger putting the 480 in one of there rifles, but my inclination is to chalk that up more to wishful thinking then reality.

Depending on barrel length, I figure you're looking at a 300 fps boost over a revolver, which would mean 400 gr bullets at 1500 fps.

Paul, what advantage would this give you over say purchasing a Marlin 1895 in 45/70? the 45/70 which I am pretty biased to is a very versatile cartridge 400 grainers at 1850 300's at 2150 and even those garret 524 grainers at 1550 (we can't get them in Australia) not being rude just trying to see what the advantage of this would be, is it just the fact that it's semi auto?. I reckon a 444 marlin would also be more versatile. By the way besides a 45/70 I also have one of those handy 1894P's in .44 mag.

Regards PC.

The advantage would be having a rifle that fires the same ammo as ones pistol.

Power wise, I'd like to take the 45-70 and blow it straight to shoot the 475 bullets, which has been done by several folks. I figure the 460 cast at 1800 would be a quite nice combo.

Advantages? are you trying to bring logic and reason into this equation? tsk tsk, my friend tsk tsk. Here's all the logic and reason i go by in this hobby: I like it, i want it, i've got the money for it.

see simple IS better

When I read the blurb about the introdcution of this cartridge, I wondered how long before it appeared in one of their rifles.

I would prefer the semi-auto version, but then I have an original M44RS in 44 Mag and an M-1 Carbine re-barreled to .45 Win Mag.

I sure agree with you, Curtis. And you guys are partially responsible. I'm talking to John Ricks about a 450 Dakota due to what I learned in my posting about converting a CZ 550 Safari Grade to 460 G & A mag. That's going to cost me. Jim, I saw an ad in shotgun news several years ago about a guy converting M-1 carbines to 45 mag. Is that what you have? Does anybody still do that?

May you never have a misfire

Curtis, you and I both. I have been working part time and studying for the past two years. However it's funny how you can find or scrimp up the money for "that bargain".

Curtis, I encorage my girlfriend to spend to justify my gun expenditure. I am currently planning the building of a .585 Nyatti and hope to purchase an action after Xmas. I told her that it was illegal to hunt large boars with any rifle under .510 caliber. Huge fines associated with breach of this law. She bought it!!!!

Bob,

You are correct, I got the M-1 conversion to .45 Win Mag from LeMag who were doing that work a few years ago.

They seem to have disappeared from the scene, and I don't know of anyone esle doing that kind of conversion.

Conversions have problems! Always!

I also think you will be be better served with the .450 Dakota than the G&A round on the .404 case. There is just not enough brass IMHO. It is like having too small a case for your load, get a bigger one!...jim

Jim, Now that you mention the name I remember the ad. I gave my extra M-1 carbine to my son so don't have anything to convert anyway. I just read John Ricks posting on the ideal 450. Maybe by the time I get it together he will have that one perfected. Thanks for the info.
