700 nitroremington 700 416 ????
a friend of mine is looking at buying a remington 700 in 416 rem mag he dosnt have the funds to purchase a custom rifle say 5000$ and up (HE IS LEFT HANDED) he will be using the gun mainly for bear and boars with a little moose thrown in
i have no exp with the 416 made by remington what is every 1s veiws on this rifle
on a side note i bought a 416 rem mag in the blaser R93 safarie luxus and i toped it with a lepould 1.75x6 and i love it i am only using it for plains game and non dangerouse stuff so i am not worryed about the crf vs pf debate stuff i am happy with it and with the facotry ammo is extreamly accurate and feeds no matter how fast i work the bolt. even when used with hand loaded solids(barns 400 grainers)

AtkinsonI would buy a Ruger or a CZ in 416...better yet one can get a pretty nice simi custom from Brockman for a heck of a lot less than $5000. I would consider the new CZ Magnum Standard model in 416 Rem....It is an excellent factory rifle...
I have never been a Remington fan on a big bore level...they have a definate safty problem and are not control feed rifles which I am a believer in..
Ray, he is left handed mate so his choices are a little less. I suppose the fact he is left handed leaves him with a remchester and given that I would try and push him down the path of finding a secondhand lefty M70 and having it rebarrelled. For that I do not think he will be in to far and he may be a happier chappy at the end of the tunnel. I just can't get my head around a rem 700 for large stuff, Rem 700's IMHO are meant for rabbits & foxes and growing tomatoes

ScottSWinchester sells a LH 416 Rem mag.
USRAC - LH 416 Rem mag It is cheap at a mere $3000.
I have shot a Remington Safari in 416 Rem mag. The rifle was a bit light in my opinion, the LOP was too short for me by over an inch, other than that is seemed to work fine. They still aren't what I would consider cheap, though.
I think a better approach would be to buy a Savage LH and the get a 416 Remington mag barrel. This would be FAR FAR less expensive than buying a Remington Safari.
Midwayusa sells 416 Taylor barrels currently. This would be a "short" chambered 416 Remington so you just need to get it reamed to proper depth and install the barrel on a Long Action Savage LH. Total cost ~ $700. At least I think you can get a 300 Ultra mag length lefty.
Here is the link to the Savage barrel.

GeorgeInNePaWhy not buy a magnum length left handed Win M70 or Ruger M77 and have it rebarreled? The M70 would be the easiest route, open up the rear bridge, buy a .375 length mag box, recut the bolt stop and ejector, and make it feed.
Here's one on GunBroker:

<Timberghost>Nitro,
I am left handed, modest income, and can relate first hand to this question. I have a custom .450 Ackley on a LH 700 action that has given me nothing but hell since I have owned it. After buying a $4000 rifle, it upsets me that I had to spend so much more to make it work right. This was my first Remington product and I will never own another one! I also have a LH Winchester M-70 Safari Express in .375 H&H that I purchased new from a gentleman on this web sight. For under $1000 new, this is the best LH big bore rifle available. Mine shoots sub-MOA all day with 300gr Seirra SPBT and 300gr Winchester silvertips. Winchester built the LH Safari Express in 2001 or 2002, I think? Anyway, they are still available new. Check the usual gun classified sights. I will use this model for my other calibers in the future, including another .450 Ackley. It has a nice wide butt stock, barrel banded sling stud and front sight, CRF, all the goodies.
This is just one guys opinion, but it's a strong one.
