The Van Horn 585 is very close to the 585 Nyati Long.

Use Nyati load data. It was built way before Nyati and then forgotten I guess, until Ross built his similiar Nyati

and being a writer with huge audience reading G&A it

caught on, and got large enough following, to get regular brass runs made.Originally it was built same as Nyati by using 577 brass and making rimless case and necking down with small shoulder.Ed.

700 Nitro- Call Ed at AHR and order a .600 OK. Ed has GMA actions and has people who do fantastic engraving and stock/checkering work.Maybe not exhibition grade and then maybe so. I honestly think that for 7-8K you can have the best there is. The .600OK can drive a 900 gr woodleigh to over 2400fps with a 26 inch barrel and probably 2300 plus with a 23 incher.. You can load it down to 2100fps or so which is what most everyone does. IT will flat kill anything you hit with it and it will feed like a mannlicherin 8x56. I send Ed my reamerand he uses pac-nor barrels and he is getting ready for a brass buy from Horneber. 200 cases will last you a lifetime. Bottom line is this is the best there is for dangerous game.IMHO. The Nyati's and T-rexes don't even compare in relity. This is a practival and totally reliable KING of The HILL!Don't believe the hype either, at 2100 fps my wife can shoot it just fine.-Rob

recoil is the least of my worries....lol remember im the one that used to shoot a 2 bore under hammer rifle. it would make even your 600 look like a red ryder bb gun.

what is the 600 ok based on and or was it desighed from scratch

Rob - I agree that the 600 OK would be an excellent choice indeed.
But I will have to add, the I do not see any advantages over the 577 Tyrannosaur which is "my baby". Reliabilitywise the 577 Tyrannosaur will be at least as good as the 600 OK if the gunsmith does his job properly. It has an excellent design. The 585 Nyati on the other hand is a different story and I agree that there might be some problems.

Ulrik- I guess I just have a thing about A-square cartridges and their rifles. I have no doubt that you can get a T-rex to work, however, I have just become a fan of big belted cartridges. I've had way too much problems pushing back the shoulders of Nyati's and such to not appreciate the beauty and simplicity of a straight walled case. I have gotten the .600 OK to feed beautifully from a CZ550 and in truth have never been able to make a NYATI feed to my standards. It works but just sort of. I would not trust it for dangerous game unless it had a single stack mag. Now with the 3.2 inch OK-2 I bet it will beat any T-Rex assuming we could find someone stupid enough to shoot it. -Rob

From scratch.

Although you may not be intimidated by recoil, you may find that you can walk further and/or faster on elephant tracks while carrying a lighter rifle.
