Lets once again try to solve a non existant problem..The cannalure thing is a big bore, shall we say delima, if we allow it to be that.....

I use a big bore rifle to shoot big animals at relitively close range and plainsgame at out to maybe 300 yards max..

I seat the bullets to the cannalure in all my big bore guns, use a light crimp and a very lightly compacted load and let it go at that. I use a powder that allows that, and it really has very little effect on anything and I can keep the bullet where I want it...

For hunting purposes it is not a problem...IMO

You can always buy, steal or borrow a cannalure tool and put the cannalure where you want it...

Perhaps a better solution is to turn about .001 to .004 off the sizer button..thats gives you a tight neck and if you use fairly compacted load of powder then the bullets will not set back, even use a very light crimp on the bullet to further secure things..

Another solution is use a powder that allows you to seat to the cannalure and live with it....A big bore is for shooting big mean stuff at short ranges and plainsgame at up to 300 yards, and most rifles can handle that jump eveb if the throat is a little long when seated in such a manor..I doubt if the any 416 was destined to become a bench rest rifle in the first place...

OOPS, sorry about two posts, one of those computer things...

but while I'm here, another solution is chamber it out to a 416 Remington and beat the small case syndrom.

HI,

MR. Atkinson is right again about if you really wanted to just buy a cannelure tool, they do not cost to much around 80.00 bucks,Kev

I spoke with Hornady about that very thing. The reason the cannelure was shifted forward was to accomodate the 416 Remington. Since the Rigby could shoot both, it wasn't an "aaprent" issue. I have boxes of the old solids with both types of cannelures and that was an explanation. jorge
