I am thinking 2.5 grains of bullseye. Should easily out-penetrate the miraculous 45-70.

A 360-grain hardcast is the heavier I have shot with the 45 Colt and I have seen some 400-grains being shot by some other folks. I am not sure if the 500-grain will even work with a sixgun but with a Ruger No. 1, it should be possible. Even if you can shoot the 500-grain with the 45 Colt, 2.5 grains of Bullseye will likely not get it anywhere. I will be very suprised if you can beat the 540-grain 45-70 load from Garrett with the 45 Colt. [Smile]

Ming, under the principle that the slower a bullet goes the deeper it penetrates, I want that 500 grain bullet to just barely exit the barrel - maybe at 200 fps. If the penetration proves to be better than the 45-70, then I will try lobbing the bullets underhand.

Dan-

I am not sure if that principle is entirely true but I am not the expert so I cannot agrue about it. However, I believe that there is a balance point where the penetration is optimum for a certain bullet mass and below and above this point, negative effects will likely to occur. John Linebaugh did a lot of handgun penetration tests over the years so you may want to read some of his articles. Have fun and please keep us posted. Thanks.

i am going to beat ANY penetration test int eh world...

i am going to make a 100 grain .177 airgun pellet, and try it with 2 pumps on my old benjamin rifle...

should make about 75 fps, and I can drill a hole to china, if mr garret is right about high SD and low velocity.... on hard cast lead

Please Please be carefull with these incredibly slow heavy weight cast bullets. They could go through a mountain and hurt someone. The life you save might be mine!-Rob
