I would want a rifle in that caliber, built on a Model 70 action, or something designed after one. I would prefer the Winchester action myself. Therefore I would choose a rifle builder according to their ability to deliver on that platform.

Waffenfabrik Hein looks very interesting to me. I would seriously consider them.

I like Hill Country Rifles better than any of those choices. If I had to vote for your list I would pick Brown.

I personally just chose Lon Paul. He is not as well known as Darcy but the guns are half the money and the work looks first rate to me. His full out custom with drop box mag, NECG sights, barrel band swivel stud, tally mounts, McMillan Legends stock, the works is less than the basic Dakota. There is just no comparison for my money.

For a composit stocked rifle I would find the smith that could do a good job fro the least money...

I can't see paying big bucks for a composit stocked rifle...

Metal work shouldn't run more that about $1200 to $1500 with all the bells and whistles unless you add a quarter rib...the stock is $200 for a Rimrock, and its glassed, thats it...The rest if hype and money grabbing IMO...The exception is D'Arcy Echols as he goes beyond the above...

The major skill in a custom rifle is the wood stock IMO....that is time consuming and requires skill and an eye for lines..A composit does not require anything but glass bedding, if that.

I had Serengeti Arms put this one together. It's a Montana Rifle Company Left Hand Mag Action, with a MRC 22" stainless #4 barrel with NECG sights, and a Laminated Stock with several upgrades. I haven't shot it yet, but it's a looker, and the action seems very smooth.

You do need an "Other" with Mcmillan. They make a nice stock. I have about 4 of them now, and haven't had a problem with one of them.

I have an H-S Precision rifle built on a Winchester Model 70, and they surely know how to put together a rifle. Mine is a 7mmSTW, and it shoots obscenely small groups. However, I do not think H-S Precision builds rifles on customer actions, and their Professional Hunter Rifle is a push-feed. I won't get into the CRF vs. PF issue.

I like the way Brown Precision sets up their Pro Hunter Elite, and a drop-box magazine is available.

Dakota charges a lot for what they are.

I don't know a lot about Brockman's rifles.

WaffenFabrik Hein is probably who I would choose at this point in my life. I like their Big Game Rifle
