The front action lug looks pretty straight forward, but how do you bed the barrel lug?

My suggestion is to glue the barrel lug to the barrel with epoxy or something and then bed in the normal fashion. If this is the best sollution I dont know...

GonHuntin, I've picked up a CZ550 in 416 Rigby also. I'm looking at doing the glass bedding myself and I'm wondering how your project went. How many cross bolts did you install (internal or external) and where? What do's or don't do's did you run into? What kind of thickness of wood did you remove to make way for the "glass"? Best Regards, EKM

.375 CZ: I've put 2 crossbolts, but left the barrel lug free in order to have free floating barrel. Cut the head of the barrel lug screw, and epoxied it in place. Groups 1" consistently, shot hundreds of rounds through it. Modified the stock to have a straight comb, will try to scan a pic and post it. [ 06-21-2003, 16:42: Message edited by: Philip ]

There are several approaches to the overall bedding, including adding pillars and additional crossbolts, removing the factory recoil lug on the barrel and installing another without the forend screw, or with, etc. I and 2 gunsmiths have done several, several ways. If sticking with the factory barrel and stock, bed that F-shaped steel bedding block in the forearm with epoxy and snug the barrel recoil lug against it with the screw in the forearm. Don't forget to use some modeling clay in the crevices of the recoil lug contraption on the barrel along with the release agent over that. If it is decided to get rid of the forearm screw, Then cover the F-shaped bedding block completely with epoxy after it is reseated to leave a bit of room for an epoxy filled gap between the steel of the bedding block and the recoil lug. Or just get rid of the F'ing block and fill the void with a hidden cross bolt and epoxy, ... several ways to do it, depending on caliber, rebarrel, etc., of course. Sometimes just bedding the main action lug is all that is required, and a 3/4 MOA grouper will result with the CZ barrel contraption unaltered. Yep, it depends, there are no absolutes, and everything is relative: Viking Law.
