MRC PH Action Uses, Scope Mounting Methods: .408CT AND BEYOND
Sum-buddy who know any creative uses for the M1999 PH action from MRC?

Any problems noted so far?

Is using two CZ front rings torqued to 65 inch-pounds OK for a heavy kicker and/or a big scope?
Any failures of this method?
The MRC PH action does not accept the usual CZ rear ring.
It will use the CZ front scope ring at both front and rear locations.
The recoil stop will depend on both front and rear rings being clamped and stopped at the "dead ends" of the MRC PH dovetail grooves.
No recoil tab slot for rear ring has been milled into the MRC PH,
but that could surely be remedied.
65 inch-pound torquing of main mounting bolts in both rings may make this feasible as is. Whistling
Probably can use one ring on the rear base and two more rings on the front base of the MRC PH, since it is roomier than the BRNO with CZ rings (below). tu2

Anybody used anything different, like a picatinny rail on top of the action?

My parts are with Gunsmith.
Thought I would start with a "sporting-weight" .408 Chey-Tac before re-barreling to 600 OK. Wink
Feed dummies await trial.
GSC FNs and the GSC HV bullets shortened a quarter-inch will fit the box for feed work.
This is a BBW-type bullet modification,
"Bastard-file Bullet Werkes."tu2

Member ISS must have had one of the first 600 OK rifles built with the PH, eh?

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

Maybe one in 585HE... .Don't have to wait on bbls,
dies, cases. Guy out west getting this one to put
in a stock he had done. We got extra new one, just action,
if anyone needs one. About 2/3 of new. Ed

NPD 345's is off getting a 550 Gibbs barrel fitted.

Chris at Walnut Grove Gunstocks has a pattern for them.

I like the Smithson mounts but they are a little pricey. But they look nice! And better in the flesh.

Cheers, Chris

I was told that that you can use the rear CZ ring if you remove he recoil lug.

Has anyone tried that?

According to MRC it takes two CZ 550 front mounts. However, my gunsmith just used a NECG CZ 550 peep sight for the rear dovetail on mine by removing the recoil lug -- great fit.

the same should hold true for the rear ring then.

And those mounts cost more than the action ... Very nice, I am sure.

Yes, true that.
The front and rear rings are the same except for the clamping pieces on the left side main mounting bolts.
They can be interchanged, or the recoil tab cut off the rear clamping piece which can be shaped then like the front one.

For the starter PH, the Boyd's walnut stock from MRC supply, comes with crossbolts, Decelerator recoil pad, sling studs, standard LOP, checkering, finish for about $450.
Not bad for such a mass produced stock. tu2

Yes that is correct barrel thread, which
Jeffe and I talked them into doing, to match the
larger size of the action and barrel diameters
that would be used.Thankyou Jeff. Ed

Thanks for pointing that out. I will ask Rusty to measure the threads and see if mine is 1.2" or the older spec 1.1875", if they ever made those ...
From the MRC website, latest table of specs is different from the one I posted above, which was supposedly applicable when I got the action:
