Positron460 Weatherby in A Ruger #1
Ok by this point sure you guys think I am crazy or stupid but here goes I was considering getting rid of the Encore because I realize I can't do anything better than the Rigby. Which sucks but o well. So I am thinking about buying a Ruger No. 1 and rechambering it to 460 Weatherby would this be a cheaper route than actually buying a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe?
To be great, is to be misunderstood.

J Stamboughthat would be more "fun" than i could stand in a 9 pound rifle.

PositronOK never mind sorry to bother you guys. All stop asking questions I can clearly see its getting me no where.

To be great, is to be misunderstood.

jeffeossoDidn't mean to stop you, just enjoyed reviewing the videos.. and there's a law term "failure to warn" ....
IMHO, the ruger #1s kick about 20% harder than the same caliber in a (reasonable) bolt gun of the same weight.
I wouldn't do this particular conversion

CanuckPositron,
Don't let us discourage you! Your proposal, well, its a masochistic project to be sure, but there are many, many more ludicrous projects contemplated, built and shot by guys on this forum.
Just know what your gettin yourself into...then enjoy!
Cheers,
Canuck

Positron, do not get mad at the answers you get to the questions YOU ask, if they do not come out to your pre-determaned wish.
This is a great place to get information from those who have shot tons of big bore rifles and know what they are talking about. You asked about a certan rifle/cart. combo, and you got a truthfull response. 460Wby in a Ruger #1 is going to kick the $&!t out of whoever pulls the trigger. 416 Rigby is about tops for comfortable shooting in a #1.
I have and shoot a 458 Lott on a regular basis, so I have some idea of handling recoil. "I" would not touch the trigger of the combo you asked asked about.

mr rigbyi have my .450 NE in a Ruger nr 1, which aint all that bad, the rifle doesnt fly out of my shoulder when its fired, but that i would have that instead of the .460 Wby in such a light rifle.

Yes. And you'd have a nice No. 1 to boot!
And, if your vehicle ever breaks down, you could ride it back to town.........

Bent FossdalA friend has a Ruger No.1 in .577 NE. It was fun, lots of fun, but I would not use it against DG. If .460 Wea'by is your goal, rebarreling a Ruger magnum .416 Rigby would be my way to go, it is more pleasant to shoot than a Weatherby rifle. On option is of course to resock a Weatherby rifle.

I used to have one in 460 WBY. As others have said the recoil from the #1 in this caliber can get kinda ugly. You can load it down but with anything aproaching full power its nasty. I sold it because I was getting a mild concusion every weekend. 6-10 rounds off the bench and your brain's rattled. Makes a good short handy truck gun I supose. Actually 350 Xs at 2850 fps weren't too bad and you can really reach out and touch something.

N E 450 No2I like the Ruger No1's, but like the other posters I would not recommend one in 460 WBY. I used to have a 416 WBY and shot a friends 460, and another 2 friends 378's ,so I am familiar with Big Bore Weatherby Recoil.
I have also shot a friends 458 Win Mag No1.
Save your self some money, just get the Ruger No1 in a 458 Lott.
As a bonus you can shoot 458 Win ammo in a pinch.
