New CZ LOTT
I just recently bought a CZ458 Lott. From my understanding these are first chambered for 458 Win, then later rechambered for the Lott. When they are rechambered does anyone know if its the short or the longer chambering?

Gurn, is your CZ marked .458 Lott above .458 win mag as if it was an after thought? I have an early example of the CZ.

I saw that in the store the other day. I just assumed it was to let the buyer know they could shoot either. Kind of a 38spl/357.

As usual just my $.02

Yes, I was told by the sales person that it was rechambered buy CZ.

As long as Lott ammo chambers, what real difference does it make? Place bullets out longer and longer until you hit the rifling if you just have to know.

let's see...

the winmag was a "headquarters" offical product... the lott was an AMERICAN idea, of late..

so,cz america just might have bought a reamer, and played with the idea in the shop...

and 458 winchester became a LOTT

yeah, the first ones where strickouts, and will eventually become collectors items, like a 602 with a peep

A friend got one new about 3-weeks back. Had 12-thousandths too much headspace... barrel was 2-degrees off center (after the rechamber).

Have your headspace checked.

Guess I lucked out, I have a striked win mag to Lott.

This rifle is the most fun and most used of my rifles. Although my Son does use the 1961 Sako .243 almost as much. We shoot about 20-30 weekends a year since he turned 7 last year.

CZ's are a fantastic rifle, don't cost much, and I don't have to worry about handling it like my match rifles.

Only problem is they eat a lot of powder when you're shooting 100-200 rounds a weekend.

I just got 500 of the 405 grain Remington 45/70 bullets, that should help cut the cost without sacrificing too much of the recoil needed to simulate the 500grainers in practice.

Thanks for reminding me how much I love my CZ Lott!

I suggest that you get a good supply of 500 gr cast bullets since they're cheaper than most jacketed bullets. Just ask for sample paks, usually 10-20 rounds from each maker, until you find a good accurate load. BTW, a good cast powder is 5744 if and when you can get it.

The barrel was 2 degress off center? Can you explain what that means, and how it could happen during rechambering? I'm not to swift on the gunsmithing stuff

The barrel has integral rear sight base and a front sight soldered onto the barrel. They should have been aligned to "top dead center" - as to be parallel to the bottom of the action.

The barrel was chambered by CZ as 458 win mag, imported to the US and rechambered here to 458 lott. When the barrel was screwed back on after the rechamber, the sights were not aligned back to "top dead center," and it was off by 2 degrees.

I got one similarly marked and checked with CZ on it. I was told that the demand for Lotts has greatly outstipped the demand for 458 win. So to meet the demand they have rechambered many of the 458 wins. By the way mine is the most accurate big bore rifle I have ever handled. One hole 3 shot groups at 50 yds. with Hornady 500 gr. factory ammo.

465H&H, I've got to say that my CZ Lott is damn accurate as well. Last time I had it at the range I shot a three shot group at 50 yards and all were touching, with open sights. I am very pleased with the accuracy of the rifle.
