How would an aimpoint hold up on a .500 A2 I have one sitting here that was on a lever 45/70 and am thinking if it held up to the recoil it would make my impending rifle very fast handling with 20" barrel and aimpoint on it. The 45/70 never effected it in over 1000 rounds but the .500 A2 is in a different leauge as we all know.

In theory, it should work fine. From time to time Ive tried red dots and Eotechs on hard kickers and none have ever broken. Then again until someone tries a few hundred rounds on a big kicker we wont know if they hold up or not. The mount is the weakest link IMHO. All in All a red dot sight shot with both eyes open is a perfect fit for any DGR where shots are taken quickly at 100 yrds or less ( mostly less).-Rob

We can do independent experiments at the same time! Just last night I installed an Aimpoint 9000L (2 MOA 1X) on my A-Square Hannibal in .500 A-Square. It is mounted in a scout sight configuration in 30mm Leupold rings. Like I say, just mounted it last night so we will see how it holds up and report back.

Hey there, could you post a pic of that? I was thinking of doing much the same on a .375 H&H Weatherby. Would really appreciate it if you are able to.

Thanks!

Will do. The bases were already mounted in the scout configuration on the rifle when I got it (Redfield bases). I ordered the Aimpoint over Christmas and installed it yesterday. Very easy to use the Aimpoint with both eyes open and I love the fact that you have no parallax and so you do not have to worry about how the rifle is mounted.

I will be interested to see how this turns out. I hope to have my 500A2 finished latter this year, and have been thinking about putting an aimpoint or holo sight on this for a long time.

On a similar note. I just installed a Leupold VXR 1.25-4 on my New to me Weatherby Mark V 460 Weatherby. I have NOT shot it yet but will report back once I do. I figure this would be the best of both world if it works Red Dot and a 1.25-4x for longer shots.

Hope that the Aimpoint will work as good on your rifles as it did on Daniel Defence M4 torture test with an Aimpoint Micro mounted on the rifle:

We've been shooting the holographic red-dots on the big bores for a while. We've shot it on the 375, 404, 500 Jeff. and I am fooling around with it on the 600 OK now. It has held up very well. I don't think the traditional, slow velocity big bores will hurt it; the velocity is too slow. Where they get damaged is with high velocity recoil and shock. I'd be interested in seeing what happens if you one put on a 378 Weatherby. It's not a practical set-up, but I would like to see what happens. We mounted a Burris Fast-Fire on the slide of a Glock 9mm and broke the shit out of it right now. We haven't used the Burris's on rifles, only C-Mores or Leupolds.

We're making Holographic QD mounts for the CZ 550 now. Here's a picture.

Awesome pics, thanks! I really like the scout scope location. Looks like I might have to mount one and give it go.

Cheers!

PC,
Mounted an Aimpoint 9000S on my Ruger#1 450-400,about 60 rounds downrange so far. No problems yet. The only issue you might have is with the single ring mount on the Comp model working loose on the base. chuckT.

Would you believe the original C-Mores were built in a dentists office?

I just saw the Leupold red dot and immediately thought of the double rifles guys and the Docter sight. Looks interesting, perhaps the wave of the future!
