I recently acquired a Browning FN Safari in 458 WM. I wish to put a barrel band on it without having to remove(with heat) the front sight. I see Uncle Mike makes a slip over. Is that OK or do I have other options? Thanks in advance for the help. BUTCH C'est Tout Bon (It is all good)

Bring on the heat, I don't think you have any other options. I do remember once seeing some ugly bolt on two piece on a rifle. "An individual with experience is never at the mercies of an individual with an argument"

Or have someone sweat on stud on the bottom of the barrel, but either way heat is going to happen. I am with Dirk, the UM two piece jobs look terible. More fitting on a HR rifle than a nice browning mauser

Forget the barrel band. Bad idea on any hunting rifle! OWLS My Africa, with which I will never be able to live without!

Are you going for a 'look', or do you want to move the sling stud off the bottom of the fore-end? If the latter, Brockman makes a sling swivel stud that may suit you: George

NECG makes a very nice solder on shotgun style sling eye. Heating a barrel to soldering temps causes absolutely no problems. Taking off the front ramp isn't a big deal either but fitting a barrel band properly is. Prepare to file fit and solder anyway. BTW if you scratch the barrel, you'll need to reblue it before its soldered. Don't try and blue anything once they are soldered in place.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

GeogeS, Nope, not a particular look, but the previous owner ground down the front sling swivel stud saying that it was eating up his hand, so I'm looking to move the stud forward of the old one. I will check Brockman's wed site. Thanks. BUTCH C'est Tout Bon (It is all good)

You should just replace the ground off stud first and see if it matters. The front swivel stud chewing up hands is more an urban legend than fact. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Will, You are probably right. However, this particular rifle had been shortened to 13" LOP, so I suspect that had more to do with it. I picked it up for the right price, so I am adding a new recoil pad and spacers to bring it back to my LOP. The rifle is a 1971 built, long extractor, no salt FN in very good condition otherwise.
