A note from renowned outdoor writer Craig Boddington on the new 475 Turnbull.

Doug,

Your 1886 .475 is magnificent. Both the practice loads and the Barnes TSX group into a ragged hole at 50 yards (from standing rest, not bench rest), the Speer bullets about dead-on and the Barnes TSX an inch high. See the photo below, perfect!!

I've already told you I like the fit and finish; functioning is also smooth as silk. What a pleasure.

Recoil is a "nothing." Some years ago I acquired a Model 71 re-barreled to .450 Alaskan Ackley Improved. It was the worst recoil machine I have ever fired, so violent that I couldn't keep the lever closed during recoil! Your 475 Turnbull is actually quite pleasant to shoot.

Many thanks,
Craig Boddington

Craig was shooting Speer 400 FP and Barnes 400 TSX grain bullets at 2150 FPS.
He is also takeing this rifle to Mozembique in September for buffalo and possibly plains game.

Doug, COOL! Been wondering when Craig would get around to hunting africa with a serious levergun. The story ought to be great to read. Congrats!

Congrats Doug! I saw one of your works of art at Cabelas in Hammond IN when I was on my way home from delivering in Iowa. Man that was a beautiful Winny 94. I always enjoy Boddingtons writing and will be looking forward seeing the article. Pat

Congratulations Doug,
Your rifles are very beautiful as well as practical. I enjoy your adds on Wild TV also. A very well thought out cartridge rifle combination.
Take good care,
Dave

Which of course, begs the question of when are we having another Big Bore shoot*, so that Mr. Turnbull could come by, and show off his new cartridge?

I looked at one at SCI this year at your table and I was very impressed, but it was as I have come to expect from you after having you do some custom work on a couple of my guns, particularly the .375 Holland I sent you a few years ago for relettering and rust blue...excellent workmanship as always.
