Mine (the Mark X stock) is not an exact copy: The sights are okay, although a bit more drop would not hurt. McMillan says this is a drop in, but mine did not have a bolt slot, was inletted too far in the front of the floorplate, and not far enough in the back of the action. Gunsmith (Tip Burns) fixed that and inletted for my barrel-mounted recoil lug. If you saw my other thread I was thinking about putting it in a wood stock, but Sarco is out of them. Edit: I made the picture smaller, but a larger version plus other views of the McMillan and Whitworth stocks on my rifles are here, and you can click the pictures, click a larger size beneath them, and get as big a picture as you are likely to want. ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

I have a McMillan stock on an FN actioned .338 Mag. It fits me as well as any stock I own, but may be a little high for irons. It is far and away the softest recoiling (felt) .338 I have ever fired. A shot not taken is always a miss

I bought one of their "internet specials" a few years back, advertised for the Charles Daly Zavasta. Everything dropped in and looked good using an older Mark X 300 WM. I later shipped it to Jim Kobe to be transformed into a 375 Hawk with a 22" #4 Shilen. Using NECG irons, it swings and points like a fitted shotgun for me.

Charles_Helm,
From McMillan's website: INTERARMS MARK X: This classic style stock has a straight comb and a small cheekpiece with some cast-off. The forend will accept custom barrels up to a #5 contour. It has crisp checkering appropriate for a classic stock. We offer completely finished "custom-drop-in" stocks for the Interarms Mark X action only. (These are done in McMillan's shop with your barreled action and bottom metal) We do have inletting programs for most of the various FN and 98 variations, but because of the many styles of bottom metal, custom bolt handles and safeties, we do not offer pre-finished drop-in stocks for them. We only offer 95% inletted blanks for gunsmiths to finish fitting and finishing, or we offer full installations in our shop.

Actually, under Mauser it says: "INTERARMS MARK X: This classic style stock has a straight comb and a small cheekpiece with some cast-off. The forend will accept custom barrels up to a #5 contour. No doubt it is somewhere else on the website. Seems like fireball168's dropped right in, although mine did not. ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

Charles_Helm, I added the parenthetic in an attempt to explain to you that McMillan doesn't offer Drop-In stocks for Mausers as they state in the quote that both you and I used from the McMillan site. They do that work in-house only when you order the completely finished "custom-drop-in". I don't know how you ordered yours but fireball168 got his from the "internet specials" page which contains stocks made for customers and have been returned for some reason or was an overrun. His was a drop-in for inletting as he stated, whereas yours was not if it was ordered from the standard web page. My point was simply that McMillan states that you can only order a 95% inletted stock for you or your gunsmith to finish unless you supply your barreled action for a "custom drop-in". This repetition should make it clear that unless you ordered a "custom drop-in" you will not get a drop-in fit. If you did order a "custom drop-in" you should have returned the stock.

Actually, it says they offer a drop-in for the Mark X and that others have to be sent to them for fitting. I do not see how it is a "drop in" if you send the barreled action to them just as you must for all other Mausers -- why make the distinction then? Mine was an internet special for the Mark X Magnum with a barrel profile close to the one I needed. Maybe the website is just unclear. It does not make any difference to me as I have spent the money to have it fitted to my action and it is all water under the bridge. In any event, I was trying to advise Skinner that it might need some fitting. No big deal for a gunsmith or someone with some talent, but not a task I was up to. I think at this point we can stop hijacking Skinner's thread as we all seem to agree that the stock he purchases may not be an exact fit unless he sends the barreled action to McMillan. If the consensus is that I can't read, that is fine by me! ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story
