Hello friends:

I wonder who has the power to stop Rigby 416, compared with 458 Lott. In particular I want to ask whether the property with 416 Rigby kills an elephant, an African buffalo, a rhinoceros or a hippopotamus that burden against the hunter. I know that if Lott 458 overthrew these dangerous animals with solvency. On the other hand, I can tell you that I have a 375 H & H Magnum, what size you buy in my case? Thanks and forgive the inconvenience.

Oscar.

Oscar,

Traditionally, "stoppers" are .45" bore or larger. All of the animals you mention have been hunted successfully with the .375, .416 Rigby, and .458 Lott.

Those cartridges have also stopped charges.

In the .375, I use 300gr. Swift A-Frames and Hornady solids.

If you hit the brain or spine, even a .308 will stop them. The real question is... what if your shot placement is not perfect? Which cartridge will slow the animal down more in that situation?

In the case of elephant charges, the 458 Lott typically has the ability to cause the elephant to turn or veer off if the brain is missed. The 416 Rigby usually does not. Thus, I could call the 458 Lott a stopper, but not the 416 Rigby.

Thanks to both, is what I wanted to know if the 416 Rigby overthrew an elephant as do other large sizes, is that I have decided by the 458 Lott, but I always liked the 416 Rigby. While I want to make a leap of 375 caliber to another 416 upper and I think quite similar to 375 and 458 Winchester magnum, I do not like, so my option is the 458 Lott. But I still giving laps.

A greeting and thanks,

Oscar.

The 416 is a great cartridge, but the 458, especially the Lott is a bigger hammer.

I have taken cape buff and elephant [as well as deer and wild pigs] with my double 450/400 and my double 450 No2.

Those guns shoot the same .40cal, 400gr and .458 cal 500gr bullets as the 416 and 458 Lott but a little slower at 2200fps, and the have killed plenty good for me.

Since you already have the 375 I would lean toward the 458 Lott. You do not have to load it at 2350fps, even at 2150 it will be a good killer.

And for practice you can use the much cheaper 350 and 400gr bullets....

Because no matter which big bore rifle you get, you should do a LOT [pardon the pun Big Grin ] of practice with it.

What you have great reason, the theme here is that refilling cartridges is very limited, we need a permit and carry out a way to get it. That's why I buy ammunition original, which moreover is cheaper that that of Lott of Rigby. Thank you for everything, I will continue bothering with my questions jejeje.
