For those of you with the new CZ 550 Safari Magnums with the American style stock, what are your impressions/comments. I am thinking of buying one with the thought of rebarreling to .416 Remington.

Dave,
if rebarrel is on your mind, just buy the winchester.

while the rigby costs more to get started, about say 150 bucks more for 100 pieces of brass, it is MUCH more of a potential round... like my 376 steyr, which, huffing and pufing, just barely matches 375 factory, the 416 rem just BARELY matches the LOW PRESSURE 416 rigby...

and, frankly, a rebarrel will run you, with reblue and sights, at least 400 bucks...

looks like if you got the cz in 416 you would be 250 bucks ahead on the rebarrel....

but, if you rebarrel, sell me your take off barrel and sights

416 rem. vs. 416 rigby, I don't own either but remember asking local shop owner once about them, since on paper the rem. looks like it is doing better than the rigby in "factory" loads. (velocities and energy I'm talking)

He said something like,"that's with factory loads which are kept low for older Rigby's, if you load for a Rigby it will jump up and stomp all over the Remington".

For price you can't beat buying the cz in a factory offered chambering. But now they are saying it is going to be available in 404, 450 and 505! May hold off.

Jeff:

I am aware of the limitations of the .416 Remington verses the .416 Rigby, but 2350 fps with a 400-grain bullet should get the job done, and I like to have the increased magazine capacity. I have considered the .404 Jefferey, but .416 is quite a bit cheaper to shoot.

Dave,
good enough.. just giving you my pov....

i think you get one more round, iirc, http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=21010529

4 vs 5...

it's ya'll money.. and I wish you all the best with it, honestly...

another possible route is a custom floorplate, that will allow you 1 more rigby
