All right looking for some ideas here. I picked up a prewar model 70 action and now want some suggestions as to what to put it together as. Currently I have, or have in process the following: model 70s in 25wssm, 30-06, 375 H&H, 470 Capstick, FN mausers in 30-06, 9.3 x 62, and 458 Win. Both of the larger bore Winies and FNs have been worked over by the Biesen's and I love thier work. I was thinking a classic on this action 404J or the like, but am open to all ideas. What say you?

" If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand which feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countryman " Samuel Adams, 1772

I agree with EP. Seems to me that, given your other rifles on the Model 70 action, you need to marry this pre-war Model 70 action to a barrel chambered in the classic Winchester, made-in-USA, bolt rifle round: .270 WCF.

You have a very nice battery now ... covers the range of things you need nicely. Only thing you might need is a varmint rifle of some sort and using a pre-war M70 for that is a waste.
Save the M70 action for something that REALLY turns you on, or a son/daughter's best gift.

220 Swift wouldn't be a bad choice; have Lothar Walther make you one in the Winchester pre-64 contour with the dog- nut, then put a period stock on the gun and you're good to go. The Swift isn't nearly the barrel burner it once was, with today's powders and barrel steels.

English or European style light sporter, slim forend stock with schnabel, swept back pistol grip, full rib or octagonal barrel - looking much like a Rigby or Mannlicher. Calibre 7x57, 7x64 or .270
You guys are killing me, Biesen, pre 64 and 270. Kinda like peanut butter and jelly, or round pegs and round holes. I guess I will call Roger in the am and tell him, Biesen classic in 270, (but I was kinda warming up to the 404). I guess I should get one before Al and Roger call it quits.

101 Your not Deversified . I want you out of one of the 06's and I want you to make a choice .375 or the 9.3.. Your need for a .458 and the .470..Well.. Sale the redundancy.. Take the money and have Biesen build you a 7mm Rem. Mag. and go Hunting with the rest of the money.. AK
