I have avoided owning a Ruger for years. I'm not sure why. They have offered more lefty options then really anyone has. They tend to be heavy and I like sub 8lb rifles. This one functions as well as anything. It feeds incredibly well. The trigger is very good and can't be over 3 lbs. I like the stock, and the sights are in a class of their own as far as factory rifles go. The polishing job leaves much to be desired with wavy lines and knicks. But most wouldn't notice. I tend to obsess over little things. I haven't shot it yet, but it is bedded and Dyna Bore Coat is dry in the bore. I hope to shoot a few this week if the stars align.

Beautiful.

I own 2 Alaskans and a African. I think Alaskans are a better gun.

I may buy another Alaskan from cdnn.

Did you bed the rifle ?

Good to see you come over to the dark side Chuck.
I have two Rugers. The 416 Taylor that Leeper built for me, and the same as yours except forward stud is on stock not banded.
If not done already, you'll want to relieve the tang a bit to avoid cracking. I did mine when I bedded it. I lathered the inletting with marine varnish/mineral spirits, and put a grind to fit Limbsaver on it...Ruger stocks have never fit me the best, it was a little snappy feeling before I changed the pad.
Mine is very accurate, did a 0.58, 5 shot group with handloaded Hornady 270gr.

you are going to learn to love it-- i bet

glass bedded mine --stock could crack --mine did after about 50 hunting loads

added lead plugs to stock --the recoil is not insignificant

took it to australia on a cull hunt-- worked well-- short quick in and out
of hunting vehicle

i put a trigicon 1-5 post scope on mine-- it's a real killer

good-- throw it in just go hunting gun from 0 to 150 yards

i shoot 270 gn barnes running 2,500 fps in mine seems a good balance

Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

I have the newer version in right hand. The 375 Ruger Guide Gun. The one with the muzzle break and adjustable stock LOP spacers. Very accurate. With my Nosler 300gr. Accubond load I am getting 1/2" 3-shot group at 2590fps. My Woodleigh 350gr. PP load just under an inch at 2391fps. I installed a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36mm duplex scope with Alaskan Arms quick detach rings. Sighted the 300gr. Accubond load sighted in at 200yds, for elk hunting. Going to get the NECG Ruger Ghost Ring Peep Sight for the Woodleigh 350gr. PP load for close quarter hunting. Like said make sure you have relieved wood between stock and tang of action or you will get cracking.

I wish they used a brown laminate instead.

Good luck with the rifle, Chuck!

I would second the recommendation to put a Limbsaver on the stock. My wife's stock is cut down so that the LOP is 13 1/4" after the Limbsaver is added. They are a great rifle.

That might me tempted to get my third rifle.

thanks,

Mike

McMillan makes lefty Ruger stocks.

Sweet rifle, Chuck. Take us along on its first hunt so we can see how it does.

By the way, there are a lot of new bullets that are coming out for .375".

Two that deserve special mention are
1. 200grain GSC HV. This may look too light from traditional perspectives but use in southern Africa has confirmed it as a great all-around plains game bullet. The driving bands allow both great accuracy and relatively high, flat trajectories. See the GSC website for the rationale behind light HV bullets.

2. 235grain CEB Extended Range raptor. This too is a new technology with outward radiating petals that increase the diameter of terminal wound channels.

My wife loves hers. The Ruger 375 Ruger LeftHand laminate stock stainless is a superb little hunting machine. A wonderful package.
