Folks,

I have been looking for a source of a new CZ 550 Safari Mag in .416 Rigby ... with a factory group at an 1" or better.

Only vendor showing activity at Gun Groker or Auction Arms is The CZ Connection. His best Rigby group is 1 1/2" ... he said he'd check the next ones to come in, but it has been 10 days and no call.

Anyone out there able to help me find a rifle with a good group at a good price?

Thanks VERY much!

If I was buying a CZ 416 Rigby the factory supplied group would not make me pick one rifle over the other.

A couple of reasons. Firstly it is one group. Secondly, even if the group was representative it will represent a particular load. The rifle with the biggest group might shoot the smalles groups with the loads you end up using.

How much are you looking to spend on the rifle?

Mstarling, Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan has one in stock for $679.95. I do not know about the group size, but if you called them I am sure they would tell you. Since they have this particular rifle on display, and not as a clearance item, they should have more than one in stock. At least that is how it usually works at Cabela's.

Mike,

I think you're worrying too much. The guys at CZ aren't worrying themselves sick over how small the groups on the test targets are.

Mine had a test target of 1.4". I got a 1" group out of it. Last week when Jack Belk test fired it, he shot two rounds. They touched at 100 yards.

The test target is not at all representative of the best accuracy the gun will produce.

Best,
Joe

I have to agree with most of the others. Don't worry about it. Your groups will undoubtably shrink as the barrel breaks in, provided you keep it clean. I rarely have had a new factory production gun shoot it's best groups until 100 - 200 rounds go down the barrel. Find one with wood you like and go shoot it! You can always fine tune it later to optimize accuracy.

When buying CZ's from Phil at the "Connection", I look for the one with the best wood. I have always been suspect of the targets supplied with them. Bob

Folks,

Posting this here seemed a pitiful thing to do ... but it worked! Found what appears to be the right rifle. FFL and monies go out tomorrow.

Thanks for your help! I REALLY appreciate it.
