Many of you have taken African Game.
Did you have a hand in preparing it as a meal?
Did you eat it?
What did it taste like? ( Do NOT say 'chicken' Wink)

Regale us with your tales of Killing & Grilling.

Been to Africa once. They prepared all manner of plains game in camp, e.g., eland, impala, kudu, and it was all excellent. Of course, we were using the best cuts of meat in camp -- tenderloin and backstrap -- since most of the meat was being sold to meat markets and the less desirable cuts being given to the trackers for biltong. I would say that across the board the fare was better than the best vension I have eaten. Even better than mountain lion. Overall, the meat was outstanding.

There is a place in this world for all of God's creatures . . . right next to the mashed potatos.

Saying what something taste like is like asking the impossible....but we'll try.

here's a list of things I've eaten (not including fish). Only the African game did I not have a hand in preparing.

whitetail.......taste like venison
Pronghorn..................venison
moose......................beef
elk........................beef
mountain lion..............pork chops
caribou....................sweet beef
Bison......................beef
feral hog..................Jimmy dean's sausage
Armadillo..................pork
gemsbok....................venison
eland......................beef
Kudu.......................beef
dove.......................liver
goose......................beef
pheasant...................pheasant
turkey.....................pheasant
ruffed grouse..............chicken
sage grouse................????? but good
chukar.....................pheasant
quail......................chicken
barn pigeon................liver
prairie chicken............sh%t
duck.......................stir fry

Any wild game properly cared for and properly cooked is great eating. Some just require more skill than others.

The food at Landelani was great, but I got a sinus infection on the plane over that went nuclear after a few days giving me a sore throat that swelled shut and put me on a diet of fruit juice until I went into the hospital on day 7 or so. (But not until I got the eland!) In the photos you can literally see my whole head swelling up as time goes by.

The sinus infection caused a peritonsillar absess (quinsy) that pret'near killed me.

So I think:

Impala tastes like venison.
Kudu, zebra, wildebeast, gemsbock, eland all smell wonderful, but all taste like fruit juice!

I showed my oldest Daughter the pictures and she thought it was really 'cool'. Cool
Then she asked if we could go to Africa someday... clap...to kill and eat something! Big Grin
She said she'd rather do that than go to Disneyland! GOOD GIRL!

So, I guess I'll NEED to start planning a new rifle after all.
Plus one for The First Princess!
Meanwhile, we'll start looking around for the nearest 'exotic meat' store and sample a few things.

Who else has 'Bwana BBQ' stories?
