Who, besides Hornady makes .410 diam. soft points for the 400 Jeff. I know barnes makes an excellent .410 banded solid, but I don't think they make a .410 TSX. Who else makes premium softs of that diameter to use on cape buff?

I have had excellent performance with Woodleigh 400gr Softs in my 450/400 3 1/4" [.408 diameter].

With them I have taken 2 caribou, black bear, warthog, baboon, zebra, cape buff, and lion.

I’ve corresponded with North Fork regarding the availability of their CPS (Cup Point Solid) and FPS (Flat Point Solid) in .408” diameter (.400” bore and .408” groove).

Here is their response:
quote:
Jim,

Because this caliber is for some reason different between each manufacturer, getting the barrel slugged and measured is the best/safest way to proceed. To quickly answer your question, we can make either the FPS or CPS in this caliber. We just don't advertise it because of the great variance we see with this caliber. We have seen groove diameter ranging from 0.407-0.413 along with varying bore diameter. With the solids, slightly incorrect barrel dimensions can either make excessive pressure (if the barrel is smaller than stated) or tumble right out the end of the barrel (if the barrel is larger than stated). Even one thousandth difference can mess up the works.

Just get the barrel slugged and we can make the bullets for you.

Regards,
North Fork

I’d say that North Forks are a viable option for you – especially as they’ll assure the bullets are properly sized for your barrels. Though I didn’t question the availability of the SS (Semi-Spitzer) bullet I’d imagine North Fork would also built the SS to your requested spec also.

I also understand from an earlier posting by Gerard that GS Custom Bullets are manufactured to CIP standards of .400” bore and .410” groove for this caliber. So they’re another viable option.
