Does anyone anything about the actions that Searcy use to put into their rifles. It was a heat treated Browning. I am looking at one and need some info. The rifle in a .470 Nitro that is about 15 years old. Butch is going to look at the gun for me before I buy it, but I didn't know if anyone had in prior experience. Anyone?

If the price is right and Butch will stand behind it (with his warranty)... what have you got to lose?

How much? Are you sure you want to carry around a 11 pound 12 gauge shotgun? Why not save a bit more for real 470 on a proper sized action?

$4500 with dies and case and some brass.

Although $4500 is half of the price of a real double rifle, it is probably top of the market for a converted BSS, which is a single trigger system by the way. (note: They are generally good guns, just not nearly as good as current production Searcys.) I would pass on the gun and buy a new one. By the time the new one is ready for you, you can have the rest of the money available.

That's the info I was looking for. Thanks 500. I am going to do just that!

Lightning, Is this a local gun? Are you sure Mr. Searcy did not convert it to double triggers? Inquiring minds want to know. Feel free to just PM me all the details.

Not to diverge too much, but didn't Browning offer the BSS SxS with double triggers? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=37004372 Am I missing something obvious? Going with a new Searcy is a decision you will not regret. The new ones are stout, accurate, handle well, and have a nice traditional look. Now you only have to decide what caliber! Back to the BSS topic, I know where there has been a Kenneth Eversull Browning Citori conversion to 450 NE for sale for at least 2 years. The gun shoots fabulous groups, and it shoulders and swings well. The workmanship is all very good. However, no one will take the gun seriously because it started out as a Citori. If the price were $2K it would sell. Much above that and no one is interested.

But doesn't the Citori have its barrels arranged the wrong way? Where is New Guy's graphic with the take off of "This is your brain on drugs" when you need it?

My friend had one of these, same caliber. It shot MOA every time he used it. Last I had talked to him it was still in perfect condition after 1000's of rounds. Not sure what they are worth but they are a top notch rifle. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Steve, that's H&H-patterned SLE made in limited numbers for Browning by BC Miroku (approx. 1,165 units were made). The early Searcy doubles I have seen had BSS BL action modified with addition of a top extension. Although dozen or so were made with DT these BSS BL guns came with either SNST (early guns) or SST (later pieces). PS. Decent price on that Brownie BSS SLE, but that thick custom recoil pad must be frightening potential buyers away.

It just depends on what you want to do with it. The one I made was heavy (as Mickey referred to as to the probable weight) but it shot extremely well and killed buffalo as well as a H&H. Other than weight, the possible drawbacks might be the possibility of it shooting off face at some point if you shot it a jillion times (but who does?) and the abuse you might get from double snobs! Mine was too heavy so I got rid of it. Otherwise it was a great double. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. I have seen and stocked and used a number of the old Browning BSS double rifles by both Searcy and Stickley, The bottom line is they were hardened and they are still working after 20 or so years, so they must be OK....I shot a Stickley for some years and it was a great rifle.. Everyone I have seen had double triggers, all you have to do with any double is install the double triggers....... For $4500 I would jump all over that gun, I sold mine 10 years ago for $9000. and I know of one that sold for $7500 about a year ago... Cripes Ray, where do you find these guys? Don't you feel even a little bit guilty? Ten years ago you could have bought a H&H for $9000.

Mickey Come on, you know how it is to wheel 'n deal. You try to do the other guy in before he does you in when you're negotiating on price or what is acceptable for trade. I've never felt guilty at getting something for lower than at least 30% below retail. Most guys are putting up stiff asking prices for stuff nowadays. Have you ever felt guilty about a realllly goood deal? Lo do they call to me, They bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla, Where the brave may live forever.

OK all you baby boomers, 10 years ago was not all that long ago, and double prices were higher then than they are now, The Africa craze has only come into its own in the last 10 or 15 years, before that no one could afford to go there!!
