A few months ago I was talking to Steve Hornady/Hornady Mfg-Bullets, and was trying to convince him to make the .475-400 grain HP in a 500 grain soft point. He replied there would not be enough of a market for them and that bullet would not be heavy enough for African hunting. I tried to explain that there is a REAL need and market for 475 to 510 cal bullets for lighter game and practice and a cup and draw with a medium thick jacket would be just the deal thing. So, my point is...now is the time to put up and I will take your comments to Steve and maybe we can get bullets for 25 to 40 cents each rather than a buck. If the interest is there now is the time to "VOICE" your feelings and support for such a project. Good Hunting, "Z"

Z, Not being negative, but consider Sierra don't make a 416 and Hornady only does a 400 grain 416. They were qutea few years ago going to do a 340 frain 416 Spitzer but abandoned ship. Now consider how small demand would be for 475 and 50 as compared to 416.It costs them big time money to set up for a bullet. Another option you may want to consider is to make your own. I have ordered the gear from Richard Corbin to make 416s. If you sold a few of your bullets then you would soon pay for the gear. It costs about $800US to set up for one caliber and point style. The press is $200US, so you have about $600US per caliber for one point style. Additional point styles are about $150US. If you buy jackets, it will cost you about $10US in materials to make 100 bullets. Mike

Mike375, You make a good point overall. My thinking is that there would be more of a market than people think as there are more doubles being made and sold now than ever before, as I am sure your already aware. Also knowing that Hornady has, in the past, made special runs of bullets 400,000 to 500,000 at a time I know Steve could be talked into this if there was enough interest, with a wide expression of that interest. Although they are very consumed with the .17 HMR and some other new projects, they would work this type of a deal in if they believed it was worth it. I have already talked to a couple of their machinests and they said this type of tooling would be durable and last quite awhile as they are not making sharp spitzer points and "boattails". Anyhow, just thought if the interest was there fine and if not fine. I guess I will need to contact someone to buy some of their bullets to offset the price of their equipment. Thanks. If hOrnday made .474, .510 and .585 low priced bullets, I would buy them for practice instead of Hawk.
